Obama seeks 'consolidation authority' to merge agencies
Fox News ^ | January 13, 2012

President Barack Obama will ask Congress on Friday for greater power to shrink the federal government, and his first idea is merging six sprawling trade and commerce agencies whose overlapping programs can be baffling to businesses, a senior administration official told The Associated Press.

Obama will call on Congress to give him a type of reorganizational power last held by a president when Ronald Reagan was in office. The Obama version would be a so-called consolidation authority allowing him to propose mergers that promise to save money and help consumers. The deal would entitle him to an up-or-down vote from Congress in 90 days.

It would be up to lawmakers, therefore, to first grant Obama this fast-track authority and then decide whether to approve any of his specific ideas.

Obama just wants more power, this is a ruse for that. What makes anyone think that now after 3 years Obama can do anything except grow government....we are over 15 Trillion in debt....why would Obama be given anything other than a one way ticket out of town.

Obama has done nothing but abuse the power he already has. Why give him more so he can abuse that?

If he has a plan, then he should present it.If it makes sense it will go through.

It’s time the Congress took back some of the powers it should have. Not give this clown more.

Close the White Hut until January, 2013.

” ... mergers that promise to save money and help consumers.”
And facilitate our change to a command economy.

Is he planning on "consolidating" agencies under Obamacare?:

The Speaker just needs to respond that he can send proposals to the Legislative branch any time, but that his Democrat Senate has refused to present a budget, so it will be difficult to make changes until his party participates in the process for the first time since 2009.

This is about gaming the Republicans and they will fall for it. They will fight him and look like shills for big business.

Republicans should see him those agencies and raise him a few more. Then they can slow walk the whole process right through election day.

This is very similar to O’s tactics on the reduction of SS withholding. He got the Rs to fight against lowering taxes. The Rs should have said yes to reductions then raised it some more.

It’s more likely being used as cover for his unConstitutional appointments.

Basically the Wetback in Chief is asking for more federal funding to establish a federal program to reduce the size of the federal government!

Note to Congress: Let’s wait until he’s re-elected (God forbid) to even discuss this.

This is what jimmy Carter did in Georgia in the 1970’s. There 252 departments and if one had business with the state gummint one went directly to the agency in question. Each agency was accountable alone for it's actions. After Carter's reorganization the size and budget tripled, and accountability vanished.

You got it. Then he can appoint all the communists he wants to the new consolidated agencies.

Very clever.

Marketing one-stop shopping for political favors.

Obama just wants more power, this is a ruse for that.

That was my first thought. The more agencies he can get under one of his czars, it won't matter whether he's reelected or not. The legacy will continue.

When Nixon did this, we got the EPA.

Even in Republican hands, having the Executive ‘reform’ itself is a questionable idea.
