New York believes it does not have to follow the Constitution. It is one of only six states that does not have a state constitutional protection of the right to keep and bear arms.
New York City was one of the promoters of modern gun control, after the wave of prohibitions on concealed carry that occured during reconstruction, aimed at recently freed slaves.
The New York Sullivan law was promoted and passed by the thuggish Tim Sullivan, one of New York Cities well know organized crime politicians, in order to protect his own thugs from armed citizens.

You would think with all the crime and corruption in New York that they would have better things to do than arrest innocent travelers.
Well:I guess they can get away with it. God knows the Justice Department under Bracko Bama and Eric Holder , isn’t going to try to stop them.

I suspect most of these cases are going to end up being pled out at a lesser offense. I know the prosecutor in the case of the Tea Party guy at JFK Airport reduced the charge to some kind of disorderly conduct offense and the guy basically walked.
There are two factors even under New York's legal/political climate at work here that weigh in favor of the alleged "offender": (1) prosecuting tourists and business travelers is not going to be good business for a place like NYC, and (2) the idea of spending time and money in the legal system to send upstanding citizens from other states to jail is not going to over well politically in a state that's basically broke.

I have not been to NYC in years, although I was born just outside in Nassau county and spent my childhood in Queens. Now, I have another good reason not to go. It is time that gun owners and those that care about 2A and the Constiution launch a serious effort to boycott NYC. I can’t think of a better reason.

New York hasssss a long history of treason, going all the way baack to the Revolutionary War when a sizable proportion of the citizens were loyal Royalists. Many still prefer being subjects rather than citizens.
Boycott New York!

New Jersey does not have any provision for the 2nd Amendment in it's constitution, either. Technically, all firearms are illegal in NJ, unless the owner meets certain exemptions. It's a total farce, but the cities in NJ keep electing these scumbags into the legislature that support this crap, and the governor is not the slightest bit motivated to move NJ towards right to carry.

Thanks for the history lesson - I wondered how they could be their own country and not abide by Federal Laws.

It is one of only six states that does not have a state constitutional protection of the right to keep and bear armsThat doesn't matter. Unlike most of the Bill of Rights, which does NOT apply to the States, the Second Amendment specifically mentions States and makes it clear tha the right in question belongs to the People and may not be infringed, even by a State.

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive."

If a law abiding citizen arrives in NYC and is robbed or assaulted the police will most likely fill out some forms but otherwise do nothing. If his ID and tickets are stolen in the attack he will probably not be allowed to board his return flight and be required to go through all kinds of difficulty.
If a law abiding citizen tries to check a legally registered firearm he will immediately be arrested.
Notice the Civil Liberties types and the Democrats think this is great.

I left the State of New Joke because they suck.
I have been back once, for my mother's funeral.
