Brenham Ranch Surprise: Rick Santorum Endorsed by 150 Evangelical Leaders
Catholic Online ^ | 1/14/12 | Keith A Fournier

Will the Brenham Ranch, owned by former Judge Paul Pressler, be looked back upon as the place where the plans for a Republican coronation were upset? Will it mark the beginning of a surge of support for the candidacy of former Senator Rick Santorum for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination?

It was at that ranch that 150 evangelical Protestant Christian leaders met to choose a candidate whom they could all unite behind. Speculation over the meeting, who attended it, and who would receive the nod of support from among former Governor Rick Perry, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, has filled the blogosphere. It has also provided fodder for the mainstream media.

On Saturday afternoon, January 14, 2012, the speculation ended. Tony Perkins, the President of the Family Research Council and a spokesman for the group emerged to report the results. With a strong showing of over 2/3 of the vote, the leaders chose to endorse - and place their formidable resources behind - former Senator Rick Santorum as the Republican nominee.

This vital endorsement of these major evangelical leaders came on the heels of the endorsement of a group of Catholics called "Catholic Vote" just last week. Santorum's strong support among Catholics is well known. It is also growing.

So you *were* a Dem troll all along, pushing Perry to divide and conquer whatever *real* conservatives were in the race?

Noted.

You are losing your edge.

Great many with the word conservative or some other such handle to evoke same, in the name (for added cred) are just that, trolls who talk up your candidate as long as he/she is down in the polls, all the while badrapping the contenders.

The posting history gives a better indication than the latest paragraph.

Rick Santorum presents himself as a super-religious, right-wing-Catholic goody-two-shoes. That may even be true as far as his marriage is concerned, though his constant obsession with sex in general and gay sex in particular is, well, interesting.

That's from your first source. Just take a step back and look at that crap sandwich paragraph. ALL your sources are very lib ones. CREW? C'mon, give us a break!

Since I haven’t studied each of these charges, I am left to respond to you in the following manner. I have to do it going on what I already know about the U. S. Senate in part.

The Senate is a bastion of disgusting people, almost completely dominated by Leftists from both parties. Those of the Left have been particularly bad. How many of them have been consorting with people like Ayers, Soros, and their ilk? It has essentially been a lost cause for the last fifty years, probably a lot longer.

Into this mix, it is now stated that Santorum is one of the top three most corrupt people there. Ted Kennedy, John McCain, John Kerry, Harry Reid,... and on it goes were less corrupt than Rick Santorum. That’s what I’m supposed to believe? Evidently you believe it. I’m having trouble with this premise.

If this premise is flawed, and I think it is, how else has information about Santorum been spun here to denigrate him, take him down, destroy his chances of being president?

You mentioned CREW. I just went to their site.

Here’s CREW’s list of worst governors.

America’s Worst Governors

Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS)
Gov. Donald Carcieri (R-RI)
Gov. Jim Gibbons (R-NV)
Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-LA)
Gov. David Paterson (D-NY)
Gov. Sonny Perdue (R-GA)
Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX)
Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM)
Gov. Mike Rounds (R-SD)
Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC)
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA)

Notice anything in common between these eleven governors? Why of course nine out of eleven are Republicans.

I’m beginning to see a pattern here fella.

Look, nobody around here is going to accuse me of being a supporter of Rick Perry. I still don’t think he’s one of the worst governors by any stretch of the imagination.

I’m not sure who fed you this tripe, but I’m not hungry enough to ask you for a serving for myself. No thanks.

Information can be spun to look very bad, when it really isn’t. I’m going to have to tell you, that’s what it looks like is going on here.

I appreciate your efforts. Later...

Some have graduated from listening to (and believing) the pap of what these people say to watching what they do. The Specter endorsement negates almost all of what he says.

That is not true. Santorum is overall conservative and miles better than Mittens. Come on.

Have you seen Santorum's voting record? He's no conservative. He was my second choice in Iowa but we never were exposed to Santorum's real voting record.

He's way down on my list now.

As an Evangelical, I will vote Santorum over Mittens any day.

I would not vote for Mitt if he paid me a million dollars. I know too much about him and what makes him tick.

And good point about which sources some pretenders around here have and have not.

"I have no doubt that all 3 are solid in this respect.

Only Newt and Paul are credible on spending, Paul way more so than Newt since Newt in the last 10 years or so has been making lots of big government sounds. Santorum has zero credibility and is unacceptable.

Record-wise, I think you are correct.

But as far as specific proposals go, all of them are promising dramatic spending cuts.

Except Romney, who says we should only have “reasonable” cuts of $500 billion over 5 years.

How many times are we going to elect politicians that promise to cut spending but once elected increase spending? That happened to all the cuts the GOP promised going into the 2010 election? I for one do mot intent to be fooled again. On spending either Paul or Newt, with Paul being a much better choice, the rest are just standard lying retread GOPers.

I share your opinion that Paul or Newt are the best (and only real) choices.

Some posters here on FR have wild imaginations. If you’ve ever bothered to examine Santorum’s RECORD, you will find he’s no conservative. He’s prolife and that’s about it. http://www.redstate.com/erick/2012/01/06/what-a-big-government-conservative-looks-like/

I just disagree. I think his record is pretty darn good and better than anyone currently in the race. I think we can agree that Mittens should be stopped though.
