I have no doubt that Gingrich’s position on property rights waxes and wanes according to his moods. But your candidate (as well as my former Mayor) also is pretty bad on property rights. Trans Texas Corridor, anyone?

…….”Much has been criticized of Governor Perry’s initial support for the Trans-Texas Corridor (TTC). As President of the Conservative Coalition of the Texas Legislature, I was deeply involved in that entire process. My rural district was directly in the path of the TTC and the project was largely viewed by my constituents as an abuse of the governmental power of eminent domain.

Truth is, the TTC started as a expansion on the I-35 corridor. The plan was added to legislation by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) as a new “branch” of highway that ran from south Texas to the north right through my district. TXDOT presented facts that upon the completion of the Panama Canal expansion many of the trading freighters, which currently only serve the West Coast, would be able to bring their cargo to Texas ports.

It was anticipated that this would place a tremendous burden on the current highway system as it heads north. However, the flawed TXDOT presentation of the plan and threats to private land ownership were not handled well. Citizens throughout Texas were insulted by the methods of potential property seizure, foreign control of Texas properties and other abuses.

It was wrong, and when presented with the will of Texas citizens, Governor Perry put a stop to it.

While driving my daughter back to begin a new semester at Baylor University, I received a call from the Governor’s office requesting that I invite a group of my fellow Texas Conservative Coalition legislators to his office to meet with him and TXDOT leadership. The following week several of us met with Governor Perry and the TXDOT Commissioner and Executive Director to share the frustration and opposition of our constituents across the state to the TTC.

After a lengthy meeting, Governor Perry did something that has made me respect him as I have no other leader which I have observed or served alongside. He sat back in his chair, gave our arguments thought and said, “Tell your constituents you talked to the Governor, and the Trans-Texas Corridor is no more.”

To this day, the handful of legislators in attendance at that meeting have respected Rick Perry–a man who was confident, honest, and exhibited absolute integrity to his citizens. He often does not receive the proper recognition and credit he deserves for his decisive response to the will of Texas citizens against the TTC. When presented with their objections and opposition, he brought a halt to the ill-conceived TTC.”……

That is between Texas people and their Government. I don’t remember Perry proposing for any federal power grab. He is the fighter of states rights.

On the other hand, Newt is the ultimate “I have all answers and will design the right answers for America” kind of statist.

Don’t throw mud at Perry just because you can’t wash up Newt to make him look clean.

In other words, he flip flops on major issues that effect ranchers and homeowners in your state.

Unlike Perry people, I can openly criticize my mayor for getting involved in this mess. He was a good mayor but terribly wrong on this issue. And he had no business messing with Texas the way Bloomberg has no right to mess with gun laws in other states.

In other words, I wasted my time locating that account for you, that shows Rick Perry listens to the people of Texas.

I read everything you posted. Why would I not? But, in the end, it is still a flip flop. He’s a politician - he can’t go too far against the will of the people if he wishes to win reelection.

He did the right thing in the end - luckily for your state and the rest of the country.

Our state population centers are near grid-lock because this was blown out of proportion by the environmentalists and Leftists. Infrastructure will have to be addressed. This was purposefully attacked by the Left as a no-growth hit on Texas. They want the money spent on toy trains in inner cities.

Your post confused me. Do you support the corridor?

The Newt & Nancy couch thing wasn’t some undeliberate fluke. Newt’s deep “environmental studies” professor roots don’t bode well for the anti-treehuggers. Skeptic blogs are repulsed by the thought of Newt, and will not endorse him, even going so far as to pick Romney: http://www.real-science.com/calling-republican-race
I think the skeptics thinking on backing Romney over Newt is that Mitt may pretty much go with the R flow on this issue, while Newt may have enough belief in the idiocy to rock the R boat, like Newt did repeatedly in the ‘90s on environmental issues.

Giuliani had Big Plans-—he opened a law office in Texas to facilitate the TTC project-—his law client was the Spanish company, the beneficiary of the Texas govt’s enminent domain land grab.

Giuliani clearly needed the Governor’s help to eminent domain the thousands of acres needed to get the project off the ground.

Hard to believe they just let it drop——there was so much in it for the politicians-—for everyone except the unfortunate Texans targeted for the land grab.

Must be a Plan B lying around somewhere.

As someone who was involved in the Long Branch, NJ eminent domain situation (MOTOSA) and interviewed Suzanne Kelo of New London, I have NO sympathy with eminent domain.

Although I now believe it was a mistake, I voted for Chris Christie because he was pretty good on ED as Attorney General. I’m disgusted that my mayor (when I lived full time in NYC) - who I voted for twice - was involved in this horror.

As I keep telling anyone who will listen, Gingrich has a green stripe eighteen inches wide running up his back just like Arnold Schwartzenegger!!!

He would give this country as big a case of GANG-GREEN as did Teddy Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, George Herbert Walker Bush and all the Demonicrats since TR!!! They didn't seem to want to understand that ours is a government of, for and by the PEOPLE! (not affirmative action for fish and plants and welfare for wildlife!)

He talks like a big bad conservative just like Schwartzenrenegger and it warms the cockles of conservatives hearts but California conservatives, even many FReepers wouldn't go to Arnold's website to see his statements and those of his inlaw Robert Kennedy, Jr. to use the force of government to stomp on all sorts of property rights with things like the Sierra-Nevada Conservancy to match the tyranny of the CA Coastal Commission, etc., etc., etc...

He really believes in GANG-GREEN and that it is for our own good and "for the good of all!" I'm thrilled to see him nosediving once again and sincerely hope both he and Romney, (in other words "Newt Romney") never become President. I know my opinion doesn't match up with the site owner's and for that I am sincerely sorry. I just hate to see so many people being decieved by his not so easily camoflaged green streak that he wants to share with all of us.
