Newt was a small government guy when he was in power, so I am judging by that. I understand things change and I do have my fingers crossed.

Newt won’t back down because SC is a two-man race.

If Santorum beats Newt in SC? He won’t. As far as asking someone else to step away from their campaign after SC, it’s a moot point. It’s like calling a different play in the huddle after the other team has just scored the game-winning TD with no time left on the clock. What’s the point of the huddle? The game is over if Romney wins SC, completely over.

If Romney wins SC, I’m all-in for a Third Party candidate. We’ll need to get a head start in order to be organized enough to have an impact in November.

Ron Paul is never going to suspend his campaign. He is being very crafty with his actions. Paul is being totally overlooked in this cycle when everyone should be very concerned about what he is trying to pull off. He is gaming the GOP system to get a brokered convention using arcane party rules and trying to get as many of his people as possible as delegates in different states. We could conceivably have a President Paul if people don’t wake up.

Perry being behind someone who dropped out!

Oh my. I hadn't even noticed that.

I've been wondering why on earth he's still in it, after his terrible showing in Iowa, and his low polling over the last few months, but his measly 5% isn't going to get Newt past Romney. We need the other Rick to drop out to make that happen.

Sadly, it appears that he's not going to, even though he doesn't have a complete enough package to win the nomination, then take out Obama in the general. Unless this man gets some kind of realization about where this race is really headed, I'm afraid he's going to ensure a Romney win, i.e., four more years of Obama.

I am mostly worried about being 15.3 trillion in debt. I just do not see how we can continue to borrow 43 cents for every dollar spent. I do not want us to be Greece.

Perry’s in it hoping he can somehow channel the spirit of Tim Tebow and pull off a miracle with his campaign.

Paul is to old to sustain his campaign, I think he drops out for health reasons.

Skater boy, perhaps you’re right— And if Romney’s your guy, that’s fine, I wish you luck- sincerely.

Yeah, I am with you on the anti-free disposal of property guys. To me each of the so called conservative candidates really have problems and are not very conservative:

1. Newt, sat on the couch with Pelosi showing he has no principles, has been in DC too long thus adopts the language of the DC left like “swiftboating” and of course has never won outside a GA congressional district and then he reveals himself to be anti-capitalism in attacking Romney. Really it amounts to Newt having no firm core.

2. Perry is an ex-Dim and has Dim instincts as the whole forced vaccine of young girls issue showed. And once again his Dim instincts crop up in his anti-capitalist attacks on Romney. How badly do these two guys understand the GOP electorate to think such attacks would work.

3. Santorum is a legislator and the American electorate does not often elect legislators President. One reason is they have also of bad votes like for giving prisoners voting rights.

4. Bachmann who seemed to be a real conservative, but again no experience running anywhere outside on congressional district in Minnesota and a legislator.

So I always look for what governors or ex-govenors are running, ie the people with executive experience. That Pawlenty dropped out so quickly was a mistake and narrowed our choices. That Palin never got in meant we would not likely get a conservative this time around. After Palin did not get in our governors and ex-govenors choices were two moderates in Romney and Huntsman and an ex-Dim in Perry.

I hear your pain, and yes we will see this on the Republican side in every election from here on out.

What in the h... is wrong with people? We have a clear winner in Newt, it is maddening for the rest to stay in this race. THEY REALLY MUST HATE AMERICA, is all I can figure.

They need to stop and think, and the other candidates need to drop out, make the sacrifice and get behind NEWT, for the good of this country. Otherwise it is going to be Romney.

Paul the idiot only cares about his ego, his last fling in life and he is dead set on destroying whats left of this country as is romney.

Please Father in Heaven, I ask that YOU raise up Newt Gingrich to be our nominee, in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I pray.

Poll: Romney’s lead small over Gingrich Posted: January 15, 2012 - 12:19am By Walter Jones and Sarita Chourey Morris News Service

ATLANTA — As the GOP races settles into South Carolina, Mitt Romney isn’t enjoying the double-digit lead he held in New Hampshire, according to a survey conducted Wednesday night.

The former Massachusetts governor’s lead is so small in the Palmetto State that he’s essentially tied with Newt Gingrich, according to a poll for the Augusta Chronicle and Savannah Morning News conducted by InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion Research....

Same Polling firm.

An exclusive InsiderAdvantage poll released Sunday night shows GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney gaining in his lead in the South Carolina primary while former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is holding steady in second place.

In the poll of 720 likely registered voters in South Carolina GOP Primary, Romney was leading with 32 percent of the vote. Gingrich was second with 21 percent followed by Ron Paul with 14 percent.

I will never question Rick’s faith or his pro-life convictions, but in politics I will question Rick’s loyalties.

Is he more loyal to conservative or pro-life candidates who are outsiders or is he more loyal to moderate or pro-abortion candidates backed by the GOP political machine?

At this point it doesn’t look like Newt is going to beat Romney in SC. There’s still 5 days and 2 debates and things can change, but there’d have to be a significant shift towards him or Romney would have to make a significant error of some sort. Both are unlikely.

Newt’s had his chances but his campaign has been somewhat scattershot. He’s going after Romney on so many different levels but not really sticking with one. He’s attacking him for speaking french. He’s not even really playing up his own record anymore.

I just don’t see him making up the ground in so short a time.

If Newt truly wants to stop Romney...his best play at this point may be to withdraw from SC and endorse Santorum, in exchange for a promise of a top cabinet or other position down the road.

Santorum has shown he can close fast. He already has the support of the evangelicals and social conservatives. He doesn’t have the affairs and the baggage Newt does. If Newt were to withdraw tomorrow and back Santorum that would be a game changer and might give Santorum enough momentum to beat Romney. Santorum seems to do better vs Romney in a 1 on 1 than Newt does. The pressure will only grow on Perry to do the same.

Newt could be a statesman. Put the party and conservatism ahead of himself. I think at this point he has to realize he won’t be the nominee. He also is likely very upset at the way the establishment went after him and kneecapped him just when he thought he had it wrapped up in the middle of december.

What better way to get back at the establishment, at Romney, at all the media people who stabbed him in the back? What better way to shake things up and actually make a difference?

Sometimes when you’re double teamed you need to know to pass to the open man and let him take the shot.

Newt’s done a lot for conservatism, a lot more than Romney ever has. I don’t know why he didn’t focus on that more. But he can still do a lot for the moevement if he stands down, backs Santorum, stops Romney in SC and FL and then prepares for the long haul and helps him going forward.

Just my opinion. But it just looks like Santorum is really the only one who can do it, and even that is a long shot. Romney is 90% there or more. But long shots come in. Look at the Giants game today. Look at Tebow vs PIT last week.

It’s time to see if Newt is more about himself and his ego or whether he can put that aside and do a selfless gesture to stand up for the cause.

I know it’ll be tough. But in the end, I think respect for him would only grow.

IMHO

I hadn’t considered that before. At least a president Ron Paul would start cutting guvmint coffers. The thing is, he’s nuts. What does that make the state of affairs if President BatSheetCrazy is a better choice than President Mittens?

On closer inspection, that poll with Romney 23% and Gingrich 21%, looks like the old 01/11/12 poll.

Uhhh, why not have Santorum drop and support Newt, since Newt has 50% more support according to this poll than Santorum does?

Screw your logic.

I’m a small “l” libertarian because I believe in a Higher Power and don’t see legalizing drugs as a plus, but in spite of his foreign policy and his supporters craziness, Paul is actually a true believer in smaller government.

Sarah Palin has said we can’t ignore his voters in 2012.

How right she is........
