Actually, silencers are very useful for supersonic rounds. They won’t affect the “crack” of the shockwave (which is of little harm to the shooter’s ears) but they do a great job on the muzzle blast.
Also, the “crack” depends on the size of the projectile. With a 223 or 17 it’s pretty minimal (an airplane is another matter).

I know what they will do, but the general public has a wildly distorted image of what that is.
That was my point. They should be legal, but until the public has real facts that is a tough nut to crack.
