Advisory Board: LightSquared, GPS Can't Coexist; News Stories Avoid Obama and Dem Campaign $

On Friday, two Deputy Secretaries, one at the Department of Transportation and the other at Defense, in their capacities as co-chairs of the National Space-Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) Executive Committee, released a one page letter concluding that the modified broadband deployment plan of LightSquared could not coexist with current GPS devices and their spectrum.

That's because:

a) LightSquared's deployment "would cause harmful interference to many GPS receivers";
b) It would not be "compatible with several GPS-dependent aircraft safety-of-flight systems," and
c)"there appear to be no practical solutions" to the problems.

Stories about the release, to the extent they exist, are largely avoiding the mention of "Falcone" (that's hedge fund operator and heavy Obama campaign contributor Philip Falcone,

And how much ink or air time has there been in the main stream media about the White House trying to get a 4-star General to alter their testimony to Congress about Light Squared?

Another one of Obama’s crony capitalists going down in flames. I have been FReeping about Falcone and his dirty dealings with LightSquared for months now.

Falcone bought up cheap bandwidth previously used for things like dispatching cabs and through his throwing money at Obama, thought he could get the FCC to let him go nationwide on a high power system using though bandwidths he had bought for next to nothing.

All would have been grand except for the bandwidth is right next to that used by GPS devices. The ‘bleedover’ and highpower from his system would cripple a commercial aviation, render your cell phone or car GPS useless, etc. Even the corrupt Obama Administration can’t get around that, although they did try a few months ago when LSQ offered to ‘retrofit’ all gov’t owned GPS systems so they would work.

To use the words of the immortal Rev Jeremiah Wright...’The chickens done come home to roost’.

From the Forbes link in article, their arrogant response :

In response to the PNT committee announcement Harbinger said this:

Regardless of how Falcone fares, his spectrum will likely remain “ We are confident that the tests, when the protocol is disclosed and the details are examined, will be shown to be invalid. The devices chosen by GPS manufacturers to be tested were selected to ensure failure. They included obsolete GPS receivers (some a decade out of production) and niche-market receivers. This is nothing more than a thinly-veiled attempt by government agencies to protect the interests of the GPS industry who are unauthorized users infringing on spectrum licensed to LightSquared.

How can you blame them for being pissed off? They bought the best Washington DC lobbyist money can buy..........LightSquared last month hired Washington’s top-earning lobbying firm, Patton Boggs, to join an already formidable force of 15 lobbying firms that includes Gephardt Group, K&L Gates, Dickstein Schapiro and Podesta Group.

The Reston, Va.-based company’s lobbying expenditures reached $1.24 million as of October 31, compared with just $265,000 in 2010, according to data from the Center for Responsive Politics.

Improperly licensed via a corrupt process. Cancel the licenses. Bar any future attempts to use the spectrum in a manner that interferes with the current user base.

Doncha know...all that’s required is a 3 month study and these frequency conflicts will simply evaportate.....

Well, that was 6 months ago...and the physics just haven’t cooperated with Obama’s crony-capitalism.

This is all about Obama getting some $$$ stash for his campaign.
The entire GPS system is being put at risk so Obama can get some $$$ stash.
Utterly disgusting.

I swear if the RNC is too stupid to use these issues for campaign ads this year, I will start raising money myself and making ads. And I have no experience.
My dog should be able to beat Obama with even a mediocre campaign.

People don’t realize how dependent we are on clean GPS. Everything from airlines to cell phones.

The most basic thing is that the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure runs on GPS timing to keep all of the various telecom switches, etc. in sync.

They used to do it via connections to the nation’s cesium/atomic clocks, but it is much cheaper to use GPS to maintain the Universal Time Constant [UTC] and Internet Network Timing Protocols [NTP] in sync.

If you screw up the GPS system, people are gonna be pissed - IMMEDIATELY!
