Surprise! Democrats Call for Gas Tax Hike
-- Tax Hike won't make gas more expensive, says Dem Leader Saslaw --
--- Reality paints a different picture, though ---
It's one of the most regular phenomena in Richmond. You can set your watch by it. Legislators return to Capitol Square, and Democrats begin their drum beat to raise the gas tax.
The most recent example? A plan by Del. Vivian Watts, D-Annandale, to stick a 4 percent sales tax on gasoline.
But fear not! It's not like raising the gas tax will make gas more expensive... just ask Sen. Dick Sasalw.
"[Saslaw] said Virginia's gas tax (17.5 cents) is lower than neighboring West Virginia (33 cents) and North Carolina (35 cents). Increasing the gas tax would not increase the price of gasoline, Saslaw said."
Don't tell Senator Saslaw, but GasBuddy.com has some bad news for his "won't increase the price" theory...
Average Gas Prices
Virginia: $3.317
North Carolina: $3.435
West Virginia: $3.493
Virginia Democrats: Trust us. You won't even notice when we take more of your money.
Must be some of that new Obama math...”our spending hike is really a reduction (in what we wanted to spend).....”
Once again, Mr. Saslaw opens his mouth and proves he is, quite possibly, the stupidest man in the Virgnia senate.
Democrats! Always reverting to type...Thieves! One and all.
Gas is supposed to go to $4.00 this summer and if Chu/Obama have their way, it will be $7.00-9.00. It took $70.00 to fill the truck the other day ...... we don’t need no stinkin’ new taxes of any kind.
Here in Iowa, we are so lucky. We have ‘bi-partisan’ efforts to raise our gas taxes...Our recently elected R governor says he is open to it...argh.
Dems are on record as favoring higher energy prices.
Are there any Republicans with enough b@lls to club them with it in the fall campaign?
Check out my tagline. Now, nearly three years of this nightmare, pump prices in the Memphis area is $3.35. that’s the highest I’ve seen........so far.
I have been surprised that I haven’t been hearing a lot of complaining about the gas prices in the media .... ok, ‘in the (Obama butt-kissing) media’ .... guess that explains it. Obozo has his foot on the throat of the country & with gas prices doubling, all on his watch, you would think this would be a huge liability for him.
You would think there would be some Repub who would have a bigger set than the guy in 'mom jeans' and riding a girl's bike. /S
Let us see if the new plurality in the Senate does any good in Va. Also, I can’t see Lt. Gov. Bolling supporting this given his coming 2012 election for gov.
Also, there will only be a choice of two gas stations and you will have to sign a loyalty oath.
