Iranian Student Activist Shot to Death in Texas

A Texas medical student well-known in her community as an Iranian activist was mysteriously shot and killed in her car, just yards from her home. Gelareh Bagherzadeh, 30, was driving through her Houston townhouse complex around midnight on Monday when she was shot dead through her car window.

"When officers arrived, they found a vehicle had run into a garage door at that location with the engine running and tires spinning on the pavement. Ms. Bagherzadeh was found slumped over in the driver's seat," the Houston Police Department said in a statement.

Authorities said nothing appeared to have been stolen from her car. Her cell phone and purse were found inside.

"Homicide investigators responded to the scene and were told by witnesses that several gunshots were heard, a crash and then tires squealing," the statement said.

Police told ABC News' Houston affiliate KTRK that the last person to speak to Bagherzadeh was her close friend and ex-boyfriend who was on the phone with her when she was shot.

"[The boyfriend] heard a loud thud. He doesn't recall hearing any gunshots, but a loud thud and then a screeching noise," Richard Bolton of the Houston Police Department Homicide unit told KTRK.

Bagherzadeh was of Iranian descent and was outspoken in promoting Iranian women's rights and criticizing the Iranian government, according to interviews she had done with the Houston Chronicle

What will the Obama administration call this one?

A “driving mishap?”

This indicates that the Iranians have kicked it up a notch. This is not good and we have a President who can’t deal with it. Just like the Bin Laden operation he won’t have to. It will be taken care of by others on the inside. Pray they are competent.

An Iranian lawmaker claimed Wednesday that President Barack Obama called for direct talks with Iran in a secret letter to the Islamic Republic’s supreme leader that also warned Tehran against closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Obama administration officials denied there was such a letter.

Iran has threatened to close the waterway, the route for about one-sixth of the global oil flow, because of new U.S. sanctions over its nuclear program.

Conservative lawmaker Ali Motahari revealed the content of the letter days after the Obama administration said it was warning Iran through public and private channels against any action that threatens the flow of oil from the Persian Gulf.

“In the letter, Obama called for direct talks with Iran,” the semiofficial Fars news agency quoted Motahari as saying Wednesday. “The letter also said that closing the Strait of Hormuz is (Washington’s) red line.”

“The first part of the letter contains threats and the second part contains an offer for dialogue,” he added.

Did the screech sound like "Allahu Akbar?"

The Iranians or the Obamnians?

Is there a discernible difference?

Two thing stood out to me here.

"[The boyfriend] heard a loud thud. He doesn't recall hearing any gunshots, but a loud thud and then a screeching noise," Richard Bolton of the Houston Police Department Homicide unit told KTRK.

Wouldn't most people state this like, "The boyfriend stated he didn't hear something sounding like a gunshot..."  He doesn't recall?  That sounded rather clumsey to me.  If you heard a gunshot, you would recall.  You wouldn't forget it.

"It's not believed that she was targeted because of her ethnicity or because she was an activist," Houston Police Department spokesman Victor Senties told ABCNews.com.

Well, believe it nor not, both those are still on the table you idiots.

Either this is terrible reporting, or the police are rather out of their element on this one.  Perhaps both.

Do not discount the family or extended family and the concept of honor...

Hmmm let's see.

Central Command economy - check.
Unstable hatred based religion - check.

The way it is phrased and oddly bracketed, one might consider she was a muslim woman living with a male.

It may not have anything to do with her activism, but rather with something called family honor?

I think there’s a difference - an obvious one.

The Iranians know how to use a gun.
