CNN Poll: Romney's South Carolina Lead Fading Fast

First, the new set of numbers out of the Palmetto State:

With three days to go until the first-in-the south primary, Mitt Romney remains in the lead in the Palmetto State, but according to a new poll, his advantage over Newt Gingrich is rapidly shrinking. A CNN/Time/ORC International poll indicates that 33% of likely South Carolina Republican primary voters say they are backing Romney, with 23% supporting Gingrich. The former Massachusetts governor's 10 point advantage over the former House speaker is down from a 19 point lead two weeks ago. According to the survey, former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania is at 16%, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is at 13%, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry stands at 6%.

If you dig into the poll itself, its results are even more troubling for Romney. This survey was conducted January 13 -17, meaning that only about 25 percent of the results was gathered after Monday's debate, which Newt won. If this data set shows a faltering lead for Romney even before the debate took place, I'd imagine that polls being taken yesterday and today will show an even greater erosion of support. We'll know soon enough; several new surveys are set to drop tomorrow. Even though the same CNN poll still shows a commanding Romney lead in Florida (he's up 43-19 over Santorum, with Gingrich in third), the surest sign that his camp is nervous is that they've gone back on offense against Newt:

Good. Romney doesn’t have the support for this to be over yet. Unless by support we mean from the media and the left.

The good news for me just keeps coming in today.

Maybe Obama will be frog-marched out of the White House tomorrow? Who knows? Gutte dinge sind drei. (Or something like that!)

I’m in Upstate SC. The last two days I am hearing that this thing is going to break for Newt. I work with the head of his campaign here in the Upstate. She was so excited today. She is very connected with top GOP leaders in SC. They are saying that he has a very good chance of beating Romney. I have convienced many ppl in the last 24 hrs to vote for Newt instead of Santorum or Paul. Most of them are saying that they have changed their mind due to his showing in the debate. And the Paul supporters are realizing he does not have a chance to win. I think it his to lose. And I will predict right now that he beats Romney on Sat.

As I posted on another thread, I’m currently supporting Santorum, but I’m with those Freepers who want to consolidate our support behind the top Conservative vote getter in SC. If that turns out to be Newt, I’m in.

You go! The rest of the country is counting on SC to do right thing, which is repudiate Mitt.

We don’t need to nominate the guy who lost to the guy who lost to Obama in 2008.

Rasmussen has Mitt at 30 at Newt at 27 as of yesterday with a 3 point margin of error. That’s a statistical tie. Of course all we hear about is the CNN 10 point spread because it makes Romney look stronger.

Just wait till word gets out that Romney made money off the disposal of aborted babies bodies.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/17/mitt-romney-bain-capital-stericycle_n_1211228.html

Romney is no better than the businessmen that made money off the dealings with the Nazi’s in WW2 using Jewish slave labor or being paid to dispose to Jewish corpses.

We are being flooded with Romney mail and calls down here in SC. He must be flooding the place with money, there are now streets signs everywhere for him where there were none until now. No on else seems to be spending the money Mittens is down here. I hope it has no influence!

People here are not the only ones who don’t like Mitt. Here is a very specific summary of how he is a “vulture capitalist”. However, real vultures know not to overeat. The VCs become so bloated with siphoned wealth that they couldn’t even fly if attacked by lions.

“Save America
ROMNEY SHOULD BE IN PRISON FOR PONZI SCHEMES (NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT)

I always thought Romney was a bit flakey but after what was uncovered recently is shocking. The way he made his apx. 250 million was through basically what equates to ponzi schemes. He would buy struggling businesses , then over inflate their value and pretend the companies were growing and were worth ten times than what they actually really were to trick people into investing millions, then he’s sell the companies at a giant profit knowing the companies would soon crash in which they all did as they all went bankrupt shortly after. Invester’s lost millions, hundreds of thousands of employees lost their jobs and Romney and all the filthy rich buddies at Bain laughed all the way to the bank.

Now he says the non-wealthy are just jealous and envious of his success because most American’s are not rotten and heartless enough to scam, lie, cheat and backstab their fellow American’s which he totally enjoys and received great pleasure in doing. He says filthy rich corporations like Bain should be tax exempt and the middle class and poor should pay the majority of taxes. He says taxing the corporations, (even those that offshore jobs ) is communism. He says sharing and charity is also communism, However he says even though we already have the strongest military in the world, he wants to beef it up in case the people like the OWS try to revolt he wants a military that can and will slaughter any revolution attempt

This guy is a total douche-bag and should be in prison for life and his millions should be returned to the investors and people he swindled. Anyone who still supports this two-faced swindler has their head up their butt”

The MSM wants Mitt, the same way the MSM cuddled McLame in 2007 then pushed him under the bus.

It’s time to ruin the liberal media’s game plan.

A vote for either Rick is a vote for Willard the Lib.

I trust that Carolinians are smart enough to realize that and do not want a replay of 2008’s McLame.

If Romney wins by 1%, the RINO establishment in SC will crown him King.

The total Conservative vote does not matter.

I’m developing a theory that Mitten’s sudden rise above the anti Mitt ceiling was another pop sensation moment on the part of weary voters who are are skittish about putting their hope in another of the conservative contenders. I guess the thinking is that we are better off with a liberal who we are told can win than with a conservative who we are told can’t win. Hopefully voters will come to their senses, and Mitt’s brief meteoric rise will fall like a Martian rock.

I'm over here in Cherokee County and in the last couple of days, Newt signs have sprung up everywhere. I posted on another thread over the weekend that I can't find a single person who supports Mittens and he might be hanging his head Saturday night. Another FReeper had already gave Mitt the win because of the so-called “polls”, but not me. I still say Newt will carry SC. Now back to posting on boards and Face book to encourage everyone to vote Newt Saturday!

Keep fighting the good fight here in the upstate!
