The Inner Quest of Newt Gingrich (1995: Marianne Promised To "Undermine Everything" For Newt)
PBS.org ^ | September, 1995 | Gail Sheehy

Posted on 01/18/2012 5:23:38 PM PST by TitansAFC

........But his greatest presidential stumbling block may be right under his nose. At home, Newt's second wife, Marianne Ginther Gingrich, tells me she doesn't see herself in the First Lady's job. "Watching Hillary has just been a horrible experience," commiserates Marianne. "Hillary sticking her neck out is not working."

What happens if Newt runs?, I ask.

"He can't do it without me," she replies. "I told him if I'm not in agreement, fine, it's easy" --she giggles at her naughtiness. "I just go on the air the next day, and I undermine everything...I don't want him to be president and I don't think he should be."

Why not?

"Right now, the presidency is not a single person. It's not so much what he'd be doing. It's what I'd be doing.".........

Marianne gave an interview in 1995 promising to do anything she could to undermine Newt if he ever ran for President -- and that was when she was still married to him!

BTW - Mitt. This and the Talent personal attacks have ensured I'll be working for your defeat in the General Election if you buy the nomination. Thousands of hours helping Conservatives here in my life, and I'll be busting my butt to do everything to see you lose! Congrats on your scorched Earth campaign........you've ensured a guy who pulled the lever for McCain won't pull the lever for scum like you.

Notice gay gossip is pushing this story. It’s all about a power grab for his homosexual connections inside Romney’s campaign. I’ve lost all respect for Drudge for pushing this garbage for his own agenda.

I will sit this out...first time I ever said that..if Mitt gets it.

Rats at ABC will hold the interview back, NOT because of their high “ethics,”
but because waiting will make all the Republican voters in SC who support Newt look extra-stupid later on, if they wait to release it.
Makes the (R) party overall look more stupid and/or eeeeee-vil...

How in the world is this a dirty trick?

Marianne Gingrich's 1995 Esquire interview has been discussed here on FR at length, and for months now.

This is no surprise.

Nor is it a "dirty trick." You may disagree with Newt's ex-wife's analysis and observations, but she's in a position from which it's perfectly legitimate to speak her mind.

If ABC airs this interview tomorrow (as a tweet from a Politico reporter indicates) Republican voters in South Carolina will direct their ire, not at Marianne Gingrich, but at the left-wing MSM, for its repeated attempts to fix the election for Romney.

It would contribute to a Gingrich victory in South Carolina.

How Dramatically Did Women's Suffrage Change the Size and Scope of Government?

JOHN R. LOTT Jr.
American Enterprise Institute (AEI) (download links for whole document at bottom of page)

September 1998

University of Chicago Law School, John M. Olin Law & Economics Working Paper No. 60
Journal of Political Economy, Vol. 107, Number 6, Part 1, pp. 1163-1198, December 1999

Abstract:
This paper examines the growth of government during this century as a result of giving women the right to vote. Using cross-sectional time-series data for 1870 to 1940, we examine state government expenditures and revenue as well as voting by U.S. House and Senate state delegations and the passage of a wide range of different state laws. Suffrage coincided with immediate increases in state government expenditures and revenue and more liberal voting patterns for federal representatives, and these effects continued growing over time as more women took advantage of the franchise. Contrary to many recent suggestions, the gender gap is not something that has arisen since the 1970s, and it helps explain why American government started growing when it did.

The guy, god bless him, Speaker Gingrich, is TOXIC from his past personal life and multiple problematic Capitol Hill relationships [repentant now in the present or not, unfortunately]. No matter how many years pass, believe me, a scorned woman will hold the grudge and SCREW UP a man BIG TIME at the worst possible time. Take it to the bank. I only hope the benefactor of this is NOT MITT, but rather Santorum or Perry, the other conservatives in the race. It remains to be seen where the chips truly do fall on this one. They screwed Cain at the most critical time, looks like Gingrich’s turn in the barrel as well.

“How in the world is this a dirty trick?
Marianne Gingrich’s 1995 Esquire interview has been discussed here on FR at length, and for months now...”

I think the “dirty trick” we’re discussing here is not the 1995 interview, but the upcoming ABC interview, for which they are debating whether or not to release before the SC primary.

The timing of this, combined with Romney and his Super-Pac’s scorched earth negative ads in Gingrich in SC look pretty suspicious. Mitt has proven already with his ultra-negative ads in Iowa that he’ll stoop to any level to win this nomination.

He’ll call Gingrich another Al Gore or whatever while having bought into the whole global warming nonsense himself, then he’ll claim with a straight face that he’s “always been pro-life” and been “as consistent as any human being could ever be” while trying to label others flip-floppers. He’ll claim Gingrich and Perry are “career politicians” when he’s been running for office since 1994 and has wanted to be POTUS probably since his old man lost out back in the 70s.

These last couple days have reminded me of what an absolute scumbag Mitt Romney is. There is no way I will lift a finger to help that guy get elected, and I’m 50/50 right now on whether or not I can even pull the lever for him.

Dobson spoke ill of Callista Gingrich. Said something to the effect of, we can’t have an eight-year mistress in the White House.

He didn’t get the telegram that standards for White House residency have been thoroughly obliterated. Callista would be about 200 steps up from where we are now.

Jim Robinson ? ... may I ask you this question ?
How come ? winning is more preferred over morals now ?
How come ? ( forget that Bill Clinton is a Liberal Democrat for a minute here ) ... how come Bill Clinton is condemned for his infidelity around here, but, Newt is given a free pass ? how come Newt's affairs are accepted ? but someone like John Edwards is condemned ? .. this is a legitimate question that needs to be asked...
The hypocrisy is rich and thick around here...
Suppose any other GOP presidential candidate were found to have had a affair ? how would the Newt supporters threat that person ? would they be condemned ? or given a free pass that Newt is getting ?
