one of my colleagues wondered “Would it be too much to ask that future presidential candidates be given a basic intelligence test to ascertain whether they have even the semblance of a brain first?” But they are given such a test. That’s what the primaries amount to.

The primaries might not always pick the best candidates, but they do at least sort out the chaff — such as Perry.

Newt Gingrich would doubtless be happy to take a public IQ test. The Romneys and Perrys would have to make excuses not to. Perhaps Newt should make such a challenge of all the candidates, including Obama and Biden.

With great intelligence often comes great arrogance As in Newt’s case. I may - may - hold my nose and vote for him, but please: intelligence is less vital to a good President than integrity and service before self.
