WASHINGTON, DC – House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) today announced the issuance of a subpoena to Patrick J. Cunningham, Chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Arizona. Mr. Cunningham's repeated refusals to testify voluntarily have forced the Committee to use compulsory process.
"During the course of our investigation, the Committee has learned of the outsized role played by the Arizona U.S. Attorney's Office – and you specifically – in approving the unacceptable tactics used in Fast and Furious," Chairman Issa wrote to Cunningham in a letter informing him of the subpoena. "Senior Justice Department officials have recently told the Committee that you relayed inaccurate and misleading information to the Department in preparation for its initial response to Congress.

Good. I’m glad to see Issa staying tough on this.
Patrick J. Cunningham deserves the pillory.
Well now...either he fesses up to lying to his bosses or fesses up that he is the dupe or both. Wonder if he takes five and will only talk with immunity. That could be a tough one because he could do himself a world of good if he just says, yeah I did it, after getting immunity of course.
Let us not also forget that one of these creeps lied to the family of the murdered Border agent killed by one of the weapons sold to the drug dealers.

It seems unusual and unnecessary to me for Congressman Issa to be lambasting Cunningham in writing while issuing a subpoena.
To me the lambasting should be reserved for press releases and committee chambers.
The issuance of a subpoena should be nothing more than an order to appear at a certain date at a certain time and to have counsel submit hearing briefs 7 days or so before the hearing date.
Where am I wrong?
I think Issa is building his case where he finds it. I have no problem with this. Let the man be subjected to inquiry. They have to lie, which will trap them in the future, or take the fifth.
If both houses have Republican majorities, things will get very hot for the the president and his team of liars-for-hire. Very hot indeed.
Issa is working his way up the chain.

I just found it unusual that Issa would lambast Cunningham in writing a subpoena. Issa also fed information to Cunningham in his writeup that effectively alerts him to what is up.
It’s analogous to a judge writing a subpoena to someone that says “listen scumbag, you are associated with bad news and I got people in such and such department that say you up to no good so report to my committee on such and such date/time or else.”
All that Issa needed to write was “Report to my committee building number, room number at such and such date/time or else.”
I could not agree more.

Well I wonder how the public would be swayed knowing that someone like Issa is leading the charge to subpoena these guys. Issa has already earned, among a lot of Americans, a sort of reputation as a hero for being the general in the fight agaisnt SOPA/PIPA. Will he still be held in high regard after this ?
Why not? If you are from a border state, you would be very interested in the Gunwalker case.
