Yeah, and had Rick Perry not been ambushed by the MSM over a rock on his family's hunting ground, who knows where his true chances would have stood in the primaries. And let's face it, 90% of blacks probably wouldn't have voted for Perry, either.
But you're missing the issue.
Around the time of that rock incident, Perry's ratings further plumeted. Not among black voters, per se. But among GOP voters.
Wait til the full escalation of what the MSM has not Mitt race-wise, per the chance that Mitt is nominated, and you will see a fuller departure among...
...Independents...
...Evangelicals (toward a 3rd party -- or just not voting)
...and even also true among some conservative GOP voters...
First I don't think Perry's ratings dropped because of a saying painted on a rock. They fell because he couldn't string a coherent thought together at a debate. He even admitted he didn't like debates and said he didn't do good at them. Big mistake.
As far as Mitt Romney as the nominee, the MSM is compiling stories about the "cult of Mormonism" like you can't imagine. Mitt will be portrayed as a member of a group that not only has multiple wives but encourages eating of babies and whatever. There hasn't been much negative coverage of Mormonism, but they are compiling and waiting.
Finally, I don't believe that Barack Obama will get as many votes from blacks in 2012. Why, because a lot of them feel like he let them down and they won't be as encouraged to go out and vote for him again. The old, "Please baby, give me one more chance" isn't going to work on a lot of blacks.
Perry’s problem was not a rock or even being perceived as a racist. Perry fell like a rock as he seemed to call honest Americans racists when he decided to paint us as “heartless.” Perry ruined his chances when he decided conservatism meant giving things to illegals. His problem was pandering to illegals and thinking conservatives were on board with it.
I don’t think anyone took that rock silliness as serious. But what they do take seriously is having their tax money stolen and being called racists for complaining about it by someone looking for their votes. If Perry had ever understood any of that, he never would have done it. Then even his later gaffes about which dept. he would eliminate might have been ignored.
After calling Americans heartless, all the kings money, and all the kings men could not put Perry on top again.
But you are correct about Romney. The MSM and the DNC are salivating at the thought of having Mitt to run against. Every racist sounding word in the book of Mormon will be highlighted. He will have OWS hounding him every minute as the poster boy of the one per centers. Unions will be busting heads in protest over real or imagined companies that Bain gutted. His liberal past will be played up by super PACs in the South. All of the Mormon departures from Christianity will be highlighted. There will be people in Flipper suits and flip flops raised high every where you look.
The only reason we have to support Romney is that he is not Obama. I’m sure Obama’s people will play up everything Romney has done that mirrors Obama in an effort to desensitize moderates and demoralize conservatives. Romneycare, gays in the military, gay marriage, gun control, TARP, etc. etc. He will be portrayed as the white and delightsome version of Obama himself.
If Romney is the nominee, we have all that to look forward to seeing.
