Rasmussen Poll: South Carolina: Gingrich 33%, Romney 31%, Paul 15%

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has now surged ahead of Mitt Romney in the final Rasmussen Reports survey of the South Carolina Republican Primary race with the vote just two days away.

The latest telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary Voters in the state finds Gingrich with 33% support to Romney’s 31%. Two days ago, before the last debate, it was Romney by 14 percentage points.

Texas Congressman Ron Paul now runs third with 15% of the vote, followed by former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum at 11%. Paul's support is steady while Santorum's support has dropped five points since Monday. At the beginning of the month, just after Santorum’s strong showing in the Iowa caucuses, he ran second to Romney with 24% of the vote.

As a small child Newt witnessed his father beating and abusing Newt’s mother. She divorced him, remarried, and Newt was adopted by his step dad. Later he was sexually molested by a high school teacher. Yeah, the first wife he married because she got pregnant and felt obligated to do the right thing.

Later he committed adultery with Mairanne Ginther, who became his second wife. Why she believed he wouldn’t commit adultery while married to her was stupid on her part. He realized he had made a mistake in this marriage and sought a divorce.

Newt Gingrich had an epiphany. He had to, or he would have self-destructed.

This man was carrying a troubled emotional burden while serving in Congress but he sought counseling, joined AA and eventually turned his life around after a religious conversion.

Christians are not better than other people. They forgive others, ask forgiveness for themselves, and try to lead a better life by not sinning further. I’m not disgusted with Newt Gingrich, who I believe has honestly changed his life.

It is difficult to feel sorry for Marianne Ginther. She gave this interview originally in 1995. She is only coming forward now to destroy Newt Gingrich by smearing him and his wife to the detriment of our country’s future.

People need to look at this situation clearly and resist knee-jerk reactions.

The Santorums aren’t free from smears either. Karen Santorum became the mistress of an abortion doctor at age 22. Google news Karen Santorum.

This type of yellow journalism sickens me, but it is out there and folks must realize it is made public knowledge towards one purpose only - to destroy likely candidates in the eyes of people like your wife. They’re hoping she doesn’t look further at the facts.

Look how Cain was dumped after one woman who made an accusation that was obvious a lie and one with whom he’d had an affair. The media followed Alred’s lead and said “five” women but “three” never went public.

“Oops, Newt is ahead of The Chosen One. Enter stage left, the scorned ex mistress/wife. Anyone keeping a tally of all the mistresses who have been made headlines this campaign season?”

does anyone recall how Obama won his senate seat? using the same opposition research that caused his Republican opponent to pull out of that race. this appears to be a repeat of the same tactic against Newt.

I can well understand your wife’s feelings. However, feelings lead to foolish statements like the above. Reason speaks otherwise.

The fact is at this late date, Newt is the best (and only) hope to avoid the “complete destruction of the Republic,” whether your wife likes it or not. Paul is fruitcake, who should be running for the office of DOOFUS. Mitt is a “moderate” or worse, who if he cannot inspire Republicans will never inspire the nation as a whole. Santorum is a fine man, no argument, but he is just not the one at this point in time.

The objective is to remove Obama from office through the ballot box and to replace him with the most able and conservative person possible. That, again, at this point is Newt, warts and all.

You never have much choice in time of need as to how you personally would choose to deal with a critical situation. You can only choose from the solutions that are available to you. Truly wise people know this. After the crisis has been overcome, then you can attempt to fashion further and perhaps better choices. Such fashioning will begin with the choice of Newt’s running mate and the formation of the GOP platform.

From that point forward all women will hate him, no matter what else. Even if it means the complete destruction of the Republic.

I am a man and thus not qualified to decipher the wondrous and complex intricacies of the female mind. However, let me say this. If people, male or female, are willing to throw THEIR COUNTRY to the hellhounds because someone messed up over a decade ago, or sat on a couch with someone, or (insert one's favorite 'anathema' issue here) ...if people (AMERICANS) are willing to cut free their own country and heritage to the winds because of that, then America ABSOLUTELY DESERVES whatever ill befalls it.

“The race is down two candidates — Newt or Romney. Santorum can only prevent Newt from beating Romney at this point.”

Ditto.

“happy in his own skin!”

Out of the 1,000 words that could be used to describe Rick Santorum (Pharisitical being chief among them), happy certainly isn’t one of them. His attempts to sound passionate leave him with his default emotion, anger. He’s angry because he wants to be a dictator, just as his nephew said, he doesn’t think freedom works. Look for him to tank further, and further, and further. He only did well in Iowa because there was a concerted effort to influence people to vote for him, to knock out Ron Paul. That’s neither here nor there regarding Paul, but it explains the brief rise and inevitable fall of Santorum back to where he has always been, nearly dead last in the pack (Now he WILL be last, with Perry out).

Santorum’s radio rant would do him in if his pseudo-Cathlo-wahabi-ism didn’t already. He will stay in for maybe two or three more races (if that) and get out. If anyone is going to take Romney out, it will be Newt. Santorum was never, ever, ever, in the running. Ever.

Santorum’s own words:

“One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right.

They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down, keep our regulations low, and that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world.”

Megan is right. With 60% of families in some form of divorce history, there comes a time after 10 years apart to let go and let God heal.

Good Lord.

Give me some of whatever you're smoking, please.

I've got some news for you Sunshine - the communist usurper is in the White Hut is there to stay. Doesn't matter if we reincarnated Ronaldus Maximus himself and propped him up against Barry in Nov.

Barry WILL be re-elected, and this great Republic will be damn lucky if it can survive him and his commie pals, particularly after he installs two more bleeding heart liberal socialist activist jurors on the SCOTUS next term.

Well, I sure hope I'm wrong.

But you don't have to be clairvoyant to read the handwriting on the wall - more than half of US households are on the dole for some kind of assistance from the goobermint (and that does not include us mortgage deduction and other tax break users), and the Hispanics are rolling into Dem circles by the thousands.

So sorry, but I just don't see it. As hated as we think Barry may be, Dubya was far more universally reviled in 2004 and he was reelected (although admittedly John F'n Kerry prolly had more to do with that than a strong conservative showing).

The reasons why it matter for Newt and not Clinton according to my wife:

Clinton was handsome and charming. Newt not.

Clintons' campaign was able to destroy the credibility of the accusers before the election...and women wanted to believe him.

Monica was found out until he had been elected for a second time.

She's also convinced Obama will set records for the women's vote.

Smart, charming, handsome, family role model and tells women what they want to hear: I will take care of you.

Yes, same tactic was used back then when his opponent's divorce records somehow became public. Same tactic used to get Cain out of the running. Newt is now in the lead so it's the same song, new verse.
