Mrs. Gingrich Vents, Bettors Yawn
spectator.org/blog ^ | 1/19/2012 | Ross Kaminsky

The Internet and TV news are all atwitter, if you'll pardon the pun, about Newt Gingrich's second wife, Marianne, telling ABC that Newt asked her for an "open marriage" so he could keep sleeping with Callista Bisek -- now Gingrich's third wife -- with Marianne's blessing.

While "values voters" will not be pleased with Gingrich's version of marital fidelity, betting odds show precisely zero negative reaction to the news. Instead, the news that Mitt Romney may not have won Iowa along with Rick Perry's dropping out of the race are beginning to solidify Newt's possible position as The Non-Romney. Romney's botched handling of demands to see his tax returns are also damaging the view of his inevitability, at least in South Carolina.

In less than 48 hours, based on betting at intrade.com, Gingrich's odds of winning Saturday's South Carolina primary have exploded from about 15 percent to 40 percent while Romney's odds have sagged from 85 percent to 60 percent. Rick "Hey, I won Iowa!" Santorum is trading under 1 percent to win the Palmetto State.

Bettors are not placing too much weight on South Carolina as a barometer for the whole nominating enchilada, with Gingrich's odds going from about 5 percent to 10 percent, but with Romney remaining a prohibitive 84 percent favorite, down from about 91 percent.

Rush made the casual observation at the top of his second hour that this Ex-Wife business was not the big leading news story on the news channels he was watching. He said it got some buzz early in the morning, but most of the day had been about Perry getting out and the Rasmussen poll showing Newt ahead in S.C.. Rush wondered if the Ex-wife story was going to have much impact at all.

I haven't been able the follow the T.V. news because I'm at work. So I can't tell what's going on this afternoon.

Contrast Big Media’s fascination with Newt’s 20 year old dirty laundry with their desperate attempts to keep John Edward’s contemporaneous canoodling quiet.

It doesn't sound like there is anything new in the ex-wife story. It all came out ten years ago. So anybody who was going to get bent out of shape over Gingrich's past, already was. The strong socials weren’t going for Gingrich before, and they are unlikely to change their mind. They may be hard to get to the polls in November, but as for Saturday they will vote for Santorum just like they were planning to do before.

“Rush made the casual observation at the top of his second hour that this Ex-Wife business was not the big leading news story on the news channels he was watching.”

... and then spent a large part of the show chortling about the allegations, and playing clips of them.

Thanks for pushing Romney on us, Rush. Guess you guys belong to the same country club.

With 10% unemployment and a marxist President who just did his best to keep Boeing from coming to their state, I think South Carolinians realize what happened in someones marriage years ago has no bearing on who to vote for.

I care more about what the gamblers think than what ABC news has to say. The gamblers play with their own money and have no political agenda. Money talks and bulls*&t walks.

Clinton lied under oath and was getting blow jobs as he was discussing sending troops into harms way.

If Newt was messing around last Thursday then I’d care.

This is such a blatant move on the part of ABC to block Gingrich now that he is gaining on Myth that they should be required to register as an official political lobbying organization.

From another thread..

If there truly is a “swingers” vote, Newt gets another bump.

And if there’s a “divorced” vote, bump Newt up yet another five!

But if there’s a “I can’t stand my ex-wife” vote, Newt beats the Mormon by a LANDSLIDE!!!

Post of the week.....LOL

I wonder... Is Drudge getting paid by the hour for keeping the Ex-Wire story the main headline?

Confused here.

If this was soooooo bad....did she stay with him or immediately ask for a divorce? Immediately separate? Move out?

Ummmm.....why not?

Or did she just say, "No." and keep on as if all was well?

Ummmmm.....why?

When the whore who helped him ruin his first marriage complains that a different whore helped him ruin his second marriage, nobody really cares.

Newt's a world class ass as far as his marriages go. Still, I'm looking for somebody to fix the economy, not a potential son-in-law.
