Déjà Jew

Is European anti-Semitism different today or is there a feeling that we've been here before?

The term déjà vu brings to mind the English expression, been there, done that. The odd sensation of reliving something for the second time unnerves us precisely because it’s so convincingly familiar.

Over the course of 2 months, I visited Jewish communities in the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Belgium and the UK and interviewed dozens of Jewish leaders as well as “laymen” – both Jews and non-Jews. While attempting to determine the seriousness of contemporary European Anti-Semitism, I experienced what I would term “déjà Jew” - the peculiar sense that we, the members of Jewish people, are reliving an experience from the past; that we have somehow time-traveled and are now re-experiencing occurrences that are all too familiar.

From the mid-1930s to early 1940s, Jews who recognized that they were no longer safe in Europe anxiously sought refuge abroad. Sylvain Zenouda, the co-founder and current vice president of the Bureau National de Vigilance Contre l"Antisèmitism—an organization which monitors and documents anti-Semitism in France—told me that educated young Jews in France with the financial means to do so have either fled the country or are making plans to flee. Again?

80 years ago, our people were being verbally abused and brutally assaulted in public places. And now it seems to be happening all over again. Viviane Teitelbaum, a minister in the Brussels Regional Parliament, related an incident that occurred this past November involving a 13-year old Jewish girl in Brussels. The girl was brutally assaulted at her school, resulting in her hospitalization for multiple injuries including a concussion. The attackers were not members of the Third Reich’s SS, but a group of female Muslim students at the same school. The ringleader pronounced her to be

Sorry to say this, but Jews in France, Belgium, and other European countries, should emigrate NOW—because
the next clash in the Middle East will almost certainly result in
mob attacks against them in European cities.

Every large European city has a muslim ghetto; and the police are likely to be “slow” to respond, and the governments, attempting to curry favor with Middle Eastern governments (or avoid attacks themselves by giving in to the bullies)

will probably blame the Jews for stirring up the hatred against them.

Indeed. Jews need to leave to save themselves. The obvious problem is that it is not so easy to do. Imagine growing up in (fill in the country) and that the primary language that person speaks is that country's language, the primary source of income is tied to the place that person lives. Their kids, their schools, their friends are all connected to that country.

Jews are leaving these countries in larger numbers, but it will take much more convulsion in their world to push more to run from their homes.

You know what Santayana said....

Those who do not study history are condemned to repeat it.

And who will stand for me....?

This is sickeningly tragic and yet all too obvious of what the end times are bringing

This time, the Jews won’t go quietly to the gas chambers. This time, there’s an Air force who’ll drop an Atomic Bomb on those Kraut or Frog Arses if they try to slaughter the Jews like their grandfathers did 70 years ago. This time, the filthy, stinking Euros better get on their knees and beg forgiveness for letting the Muzzie slime infect their continent.

You really said something there! People have ties to their homes, and other people forget that. In the 1930s, my Grandfather emigrated from Poland to the US, and while he brought his two youngest sons with him, he practically begged his 3 older sons to come, but they all had wives, and one had children. They had roots in Poland and their families were there.

The never saw it coming, and my Grandfather never saw those children nor their families again, because before things had gotten so badly out of hand, the blitzkrieg had begun. He never learned if they died because of the war or if they died in the camps.

Yad V’shem in Yerushalayim might have family records on your family from those days. We have found out some remarkable things about ours.
