Recall-targeted senators say they collectively have $734,000 for campaigns

The four Republican Wisconsin state senators targeted for recall said Thursday that collectively they have about $734,000 in the bank to fight efforts to remove them from office.

Recall organizers submitted more than enough signatures on Tuesday to force elections in all four districts. State elections officials are in the process of verifying those signatures, which could take months. It's not known when any elections may be but most expect them to be in the spring or summer.

Under state law, anyone targeted for recall can raise unlimited amounts until an election is certified. In regular elections, donations are capped at $10,000 per year from the same person.

Republicans hold a narrow 17-16 majority in the Senate. That was trimmed by two seats last year after Democrats defeated a pair of Republican incumbents in recall elections. Democrats hope to take the majority through the latest round of recalls, but Republicans are already amassing a big cash advantage.

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald of Juneau reported having the most money on hand with $370,000. Sen. Pam Galloway of Wausau had $134,000, Sen. Terry Moulton of Chippewa Falls had $118,000 and Sen. Van Wanggaard of Racine had $112,000.

"The outpouring of financial support from our grassroots donors across the state has been incredible," Fitzgerald said in a statement to AP. "These expensive and frivolous recalls launched by the Democrat Party are doing nothing to move our state forward, and fed-up taxpayers are fighting back."

Brad Wojchiechowski, communications director for Senate Democrats, said Democratic candidates expect to be outspent.

I may give to the cause.

I may give to the cause.

I am in Illinois, but work in Madison.

Anyone not here could not realize he brazeness of the bad guys. Walker has to fight not only fleeing senators, but disobedient police chiefs and a liberal Government Accountability Board that originally stated that "Adolph Hitler" is a valid signature as long as the address is "New Berlin, WI" and not "Berlin, Germany".

The unions are putting all of their chips on this one, lest we get more Scott Walkers. The Senators are just as important. Their fight is our fight.

They will need a whole lot more than that to fight the Big Bucks from the National Unions. When is someone going to bring up how much these recall elections cost the taxpayers of Wisconsin? For Dems, elections are just the beginning of spending if their guys aren't elected. And of course it is ALWAYS other people's money!

I’ve added you to the ping list.

I try to use a few words in the ping to identify the topic of the ping so you can decide whether, or not, to open the ping. IOW, it will say Wisconsin Packer Ping, or Wisconsin Voter ID Ping, or Wisconsin Recall Senators Ping. If it is something that doesn’t interest you, just ignore it.
