Santorum himself admitted as much - about lacking certain abilities. Nothing will change that. No need to wait and see on that count.

Will Newt implode? Maybe. Every Newt supporter knows its a risk. Rick takes the “slings and arrows” for what he believes. That is admirable.

Newt throws the slings and arrows right on target against those who believe the wrong things, he doesn’t take them. That’s ability.

“OK- So why didn’t future leader/president Santorum, elicit such commentary?”

Because he thinks small. He is focused on trying outshine the others on the stage.
Instead, he should be thinking big picture about what the real threat is.

The old adage of being FOR something instead of AGAINST something.

It's morning in America again!

You are right, but if it were in Rick Santorum to say such a thing, he would be leading this race now. It isn’t. On the other hand ,we know who has consistently said many such things over the course of 16, or is it 17, debates.

Folks on FR are supporting Newt because they perceive him to be the most conservative of the candidates.

Not necessarily. Some folks merely perceive him to be the most electable. Personally, I'm willing to lower my standards this election cycle in order to get an electable candidate, but *only* because this country is currently in the midst it's greatest existential crisis since WWII. The Republic simply cannot withstand another four years of Obama. His defeat is paramount! If I have to vote for an adulterer to save the Republic, than so be it!

That’s pretty much the way it’s going to go. Thanks for the straight forward opinion.

I am looking for a down and dirty fighter that can win.

That is the only way we are going to win 2012, remember we are going against obama and "friends".

" What gets me is all these sanctimonious, holier-than-thou types who don't seem to understand that if they've ever looked at a women to lust, then they're just as guilty as Newt is, scripturally speaking. And if they haven't, well, then they've got a sodomy problem to deal with. "

What's so " Sanctimonious " about upholding the sanctity of marriage in the eyes of our nation, and the future generations ?

You can call us " Sanctimonious " all you want, but in case your not aware, this very website, FREE REPUBLIC is PRO-FAMILY.....

And if those who want to sacrifice marriage or upholding the sanctity of marriage for the sake expediency of " winning " then what is Free Republic then when it comes to family values ?

What massage are we sending to the future generations when character does not matter, only winning does ?

" Lets just cut to the chase.

Folks on FR are supporting Newt because they perceive him to be the most conservative of the candidates. And they seem to be willing to ignore any of the serious issues that Newt will have getting elected.

If another more conservative candidate was in this race, Newt would be savaged her for his serial adultery and attack on capitalism (etc).

I thought those of us on FR had principals first, and were also conservatives. After 12 years here, I am having doubts."

Good arguments, now ? let's also cut to the case.

This very website that was founded by Jim Robinson was also founded on the principle of family values.

Is Free Republic for Pro-Family and Family values ?

What message are we sending to the nation, to the world, and our future generation when we sacrifice the sanctity of marriage for the sake and the expedience to win ?

Isn't Pro-Family and Family values apart of one of the major founding principles of Free Republic ? yes or no ?

Ansell, Your question wasI never know who Huckabee kept from being the conservative president, who was it?

We all know the person that McCain and Huckabee double teamed Romney, but Romney is not and never will be a conservative. Now, you either need to ask your question again or accept my answer as is. Thompson was the only conservative left at that point.

No, they don't perceive him to be the most conservative. They perceive him as the only defense against the Romney boogie-man. And in the process, they have talked themselves into believing that McNewt is a conservative, just as they did with McCain four years ago.

The sad thing here is that Romney has no shot at winning the nomination despite the fact that he is actually running to the right of Newt Gingrich.

Since you brought it up. When and where did Aldo Santorum naturalize?

Huckabee did not block Thompson, sorry.

They never double teamed Romney either, they just didn’t cooperate with him.

The only candidate that Huckabee knocked out was Romney.

What’s sad about that?

There’s nothing sad about Romney having zero chance at winning the nomination. What’s sad is that many are unaware of that simple fact, and are supporting the worst candidate possible simply because they are afraid Mitt will win.

Santorum is acting sanctimoniousness. He is becoming a bit shrill in an attempt to seize the limelight in the last debate. He has had his chance and is being left in the cold.

The popular line is to overlook Gingrich’s past abuse of wives. It shows a lot of hypocrisy, though, on the part of the blow-hards who condemned Clinton for his womanizing but are willing to turn a blind eye and deaf ear to Gingrich’s sleazy activities.

There is no comparison between Newt and Clinton.

Clinton was and is a serial adulterer. There is no evidence that Newt hasn't been faithful to his present wife of the past 11 years.

Clinton was guilty of sexual harassment and, perhaps, rape. I have seen no similar accusations against Newt.
