AZ US Attorney Criminal Division Chief to plead the Fifth(Gunwalker)
Gun Rights Examiner ^ | 20 January, 2012 | David Codrea

Posted on 01/21/2012 6:58:16 AM PST by marktwain

“[A]s a professional courtesy, and to avoid needless preparation by the Committee and its staff for a deposition next week, I am writing to advise you that my client is going to assert his constitutional privilege not to be compelled to be a witness against himself,” attorney Tobin Romero, representing Patrick J. Cunningham, chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona, advised House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa in a January 19 letter obtained by William LaJeunesse of Fox News.

Romero claims Cunningham did nothing wrong and acted in good faith, but the Department of Justice in Washington is making him the fall guy, claiming he failed to accurately provide the Oversight Committee with information on the execution of Fast and Furious.

Cunningham had earlier backed off from his agreement to cooperate with the Committee, provoking a subpoena issued by Issa’s committee as reported yesterday by Gun Rights Examiner. The day before, this correspondent posted information from a confidential source that he would be resigning “effective January 27.”

This could be huge: The monolithic front presented by the administration is crumbling. Career law enforcement personnel are in fear of being charged as criminals and are looking to protect themselves. That could mean ultimately implicating higher-ups, as opposed to falling on their swords and taking one for the team.

“FOX breaks the story I knew was coming yesterday,” Mike Vanderboegh of Sipsey Street Irregulars told his readers in an early post this morning. “Readers may well wonder why we didn't cover the subpoena of reluctant witness Patrick Cunningham, chief of the Criminal Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona, whose resignation on 27 January was broken by David Codrea on Wednesday.”

These Democrats need to take a closer look at their job descriptions when they hire on with Obama. The last line always says, “And service as a speed bump if necessary to protect my behind.”

To plead the 5th makes no sense—unless he’s in fear for his life. Oh, I seee-—holder wouldn’t blink an eye should Cunningham meet with a fateful “accident”.

Obviously this guy will have to give up is job in law enforcement. I hope the committee gives him immunity.

That...or he's begging for immunity...so he can spill the beans.

Immunity should be conditional on his testimony providing evidence against Obozo, Holder, and if possible Hillary that results in their prosecution and conviction. we want the big fish.

That will likely be a two-step process. Understand that Cunningham was only the #2 guy in the U.S. Attorney's office in Arizona. His knowledge may well be limited to misdeeds by the #1 guy and, say, a Deputy Assistant AG in the DOJ.

Giving Cunningham immunity would thus move the ball some distance forward, but probably not all the way to the end zone. Issa would then need to break down the next level to get where we want him to go.

Withholder, obama, hillary and the rest of the regime’s cabinet is having a very bad year. These socialist democrats are not only going to get thrown out of office on their idealogical rear ends they will be lucky if they don’t end up in jail.
