“You can’t ‘pay someone off’ to get a temple recommend. You have to be a good, faithful believing Mormon. That is the only way.”

I seriously don’t believe that.

Money talks (all the time) and bull shit walks.

You know this.

I am no fan of Romney but is this thread necessary; or is everybody into acting like they are in the sixth grade?

Not in Mormonism. Even if you lie during the interview, you STILL have to pay your tithing and all your offerings, you still have to keep your church jobs, you still have to show up to church and bear your testimony.

However, you are showing that you know NOTHING of Mormonism.

Both Reid and Romney are the ‘real deal’.

These spirit children cannot progress to godhood if they don’t have bodies...

Perhaps THIS explains why the Holy Ghost hasn't a BODY like the other two yet: He (it? she?) ain't WORTHY enough yet!.

... the Holy Ghost hasn't a BODY like the other two

So I guess that means that He (it? she?) ain't a GOD yet?

What theological implication does THIS present?

Any FR mormons want to comment?

You certainly must know the “insiders” make all the rules. Poor little obedient souls believe the party line, however I know that the club does whatever they want. We did a few benefits at the Alta Club in SLC where a few of the GA’s had special booths in the bar where they could meet friends in private.

You also know that rules are only for the little people. Temple worthy means nothing at that level. Just remember to wear your underwear with a white shirt so everybody knows you are a worthy and humble person.

A couple of things Romney is a temple mormon, which means he has to abide a set of rules and regulations to receive a TR, only about 15% of mormons make it this level.

Oh?

Just how hard could it BE???

1 Timothy 4:1-2
 1.  The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
 2.  Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

1 Timothy 1:3-4
 3.  As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer
 4.  nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work--which is by faith.

1 Timothy 6:3-5
 3.  If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching,
 4.  he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions
 5.  and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

So in your opinion are Mitt and Harry Reid really ‘temple worthy’ members or not?

Hey! Are you REALLY an EX-MO?

Is this a TRICK question?

I can read the TRQs and find that WE get to determine our OWN worthiness. NOT some outsider that cannot understand our intentions!!

Perhaps you are just merely CONFOUNDED in your thinking...

The

DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS

OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

SECTION 71

Revelation given to Joseph Smith the Prophet and Sidney Rigdon, at Hiram, Ohio, December 1, 1831. HC 1: 238–239. The Prophet had continued to translate the Bible with Sidney Rigdon as his scribe until this revelation was received, at which time it was temporarily laid aside so as to enable them to fulfill the instruction given herein. The brethren were to go forth to preach in order to allay the unfriendly feelings that had developed against the Church as a result of the publication of some newspaper articles by Ezra Booth, who had apostatized.

1–4, Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon are sent forth to proclaim the gospel; 5–11, Enemies of the saints shall be confounded.

1 Behold, thus saith the Lord unto you my servants Joseph Smith, Jun., and Sidney Rigdon, that the time has verily come that it is necessary and expedient in me that you should open your mouths in proclaiming my gospel, the things of the kingdom, expounding the mysteries thereof out of the scriptures, according to that portion of Spirit and power which shall be given unto you, even as I will.

2 Verily I say unto you, proclaim unto the world in the regions round about, and in the church also, for the space of a season, even until it shall be made known unto you.

3 Verily this is a mission for a season, which I give unto you.

4 Wherefore, labor ye in my vineyard. Call upon the inhabitants of the earth, and bear record, and prepare the way for the commandments and revelations which are to come.

5 Now, behold this is wisdom; whoso readeth, let him understand and receive also;

6 For unto him that receiveth it shall be given more abundantly, even power.

7 Wherefore, confound your enemies; call upon them to meet you both in public and in private; and inasmuch as ye are faithful their shame shall be made manifest.

8 Wherefore, let them bring forth their strong reasons against the Lord.

9 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you—there is no weapon that is formed against you shall prosper;

10 And if any man lift his voice against you he shall be confounded in mine own due time.

11 Wherefore, keep my commandments; they are true and faithful. Even so. Amen.

Elsie and anyone interested, the LDS Church believes in God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. All three, but we believe they are seperate, distinct beings...as evidenced in Matthew at Christ’s baptism when God the Father spoke, the Holy Ghost descended, and Jesus Christ was in the water, and on the mount of Transfiguration, and later as Stephen the martyr saw Christ sitting next to God, on His right hand in heaven. . We believe Jesus Christ is a resurrected, perfect being who has a body of flesh and bones as He indicated to His apostles after His resurrection when they were afraid He was a spirit, or ghost and He told them to touch Him, “for a spirit hath not flesh and bones as ye see me have.” We believe the resurrected Christ is in the express image of His Father who also has a body of flesh and bones. We believe the Holy Ghost is a personage of Spirit, with a special mission oin God’s plan to touch our hearts and convey the truth to us through His administrations. Christ was also a spirit before He was born of Mary before which He communicated with the prophets of the old testament, clear back to when He created the earth. Both Chrsit and the Holy Ghost were God’s in that evnironment before the earth ever was, with the Father, so there is no issue theologically with the LDS church about their godhood.

We also believe that we (everyone who ever has or ever will live on this earth) were also there in that premortal existance where we had been created or brought forth as spirit children of our Father in Heaven. God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost, who were all Gods were there with us. Our presence there was like like Jeremiah, whom the Lord said He had known and ordained to become a prophet to the nations before He formed him in his mothers womb (That’s in Jeremiah 1). Or when the Old Testament claims that all of the Sons of God shouted for joy at the creation of this earth (That’s in Job 38). In that existance God the Father presented us a plan where we might come to earth, take on a mortal body, have experiences, develop faith, and ultimately learn of Christ whom God the Father would send down to be our Savior. We were able to choose that plan in that existance. Some rebelled against God and there was a war in heaven which the old testament also speaks of. Satan led that rebellion and he and his followers were cast out as spirits and now they attempt to tempt mankind to not follow God. The fact that we are here in the flesh, born into this world, to us indicates that we choose to follow God’s plan and therefore, what we call, “keep our first estate,” as spirits. Here, we also get to choose for ourselves to follow our Savior and accept His atonement and make Him our personal Savior if we desire, and “keep our second estate.”. By accepting His atonement, we are enabled to return to the Father and, as the scriptures say, inherit all that the Father hath through Jesus Christ (As Christ commanded in Mathew and as Paul spoke of in Romans 10). we believe that one of the signs of true acceptance of Christ is reprnetance of our former sins and a change of heart where we come to love God and Christ and keep His commandments. Jesus himself and His apolstels all indicated that if we really love Him (Jesus) then we will keep His commandments...in fact, they said, “by this may ye know if a man love God, if he keeps His commandments.” And, in the end, we believe we can become “as the Father,” as Jesus commanded us to do (In Matthew) and that this has been His desire for us from the beginning, because He is perfectly happy and wants the same for any of His children who are willing to do what is neceswsary to inherit it, that is, by accepting Jesus Christ and following Him.

In essence, this is the plan of salvation that we believe in, from the creation of the world forward. I write it here not to argue or contend, but because you asked and simply to let you know what we believe and why...it is all taken from the scriptures.

Clearly, many will not agree with those interpretations, and that is fine, they are free to do so or not. Others will have issues with it because of their unfortunate experiences that they have had with the church, its members or even leaders. (None of whom are perfect by any stretch). We believe that the church is a hospital for sinners and not a country club for saints...at least that is what it is meant to be. I am genuinely and sincerely sorry for any pof those unfortunate and bad experiences others have had with the church, as I have stated in the past. We also believe, as the scriptures state that “No man can confess Jesus Christ except as moved upon by the Holy Ghost.” We believe other Christians, who truly accept Jesus Christ in their herats and love Him, will ultimately be brought to the complete truth...and that it will occur in God’s time. If a man truly loves Christ, then when He appears they will do as He bids. I believe that with all my heart...as I have stated on these boards on several occassions.

But this is our doctrine and we believe that we ourselves, and our families are all tied up in the plan to help God’s children attain what the Father has for them...if that is the desire of their hearts.

Having said all of this, the people in the Church are imperfect...even the leaders. We obtain testimonies of the divine nature of their callings...but that does not mean that they themselves are divine. There has been only one person born on this ewarth who was perfect in all things and divine and that was Jesus Christ. Others make mistakes and not every word uttered by our leaders is “scripture.” No more than when Moses, or Jonah, or Peter and other early leaders were perfect when they made their mistakes. It would be easy to take Peter’s own words when he denied the Christ and let that stand alone as some kind of witness that Christ was not who he said He was...but we believers do not do that because we know better of ourselves, and know the whole truth. So it is with the LDS church and its members who have obtained witness that the work is true and good...and for the most part go about doing good as best they can, trying to follow their Savior, Jesus Christ.

Anyhow, as respects this election, as I have stated many times, I am for the most conservative candidate whose record shows that he (or she) adheres to the principles and values that have made this nation, whose inception we believe was inspired by God, the beacon for liberty, prosperity, charitable giving and helping, and the betterment of the individual to all of the world. Right now, in the field, I would say that Santorum and Newt are those two...and hopefuylly by Florida that vote can coalese around one of them or the other. At this point I believe it will be Newt.

Does that mean they are ideal? No. Newt himself has changed and flipped on a number of issues since he was the speaker of the House...particularly on the individual mandate for health care and the environment. He has also had significant problems in the past with his moral character and particularly infedelity. These can and should cause great concern as regards trust...but I take him at his word that he has changed. That he has had experiences which caused him to repent and turn to God. Santorum has issues, Cain had issues. My particular desire was for Sarah Palin.

Having said all of that...if the GOP nominee becomes Mitt Romney, who himself has indicated that he too has had moments which changed his heart on positions, then I will vote for him over Obama. Mitt is strongly incicating that he will end Obama Care, balance the budget, cut spending, cut taxes, that he is for the sanctity of marriage, and that he will ensure a strong defense and be very strong on the immigration issue. I would personally like to see him in the Senate or elsewhere demonstrating those new-found positions before being President which is why I support the others before him.

But I know Obama is destroying the country and I will do anything I can to vote for a caondidate who at least is stating the right positions over this avowed marxist who does not, and never intends to do anything more than what he is already doing...that is bringing fundamental marxist change to this country, destroying our economy and foreign policy, and our military in the process. I will do all I can to defeat him. I just hpope we conservatives can get behind a conservative that has the best track record as possible to make that happen. Right now we are left with Newt and Santorum as the best cahnces to do so.

With that, I will go to work on other threads, causes, and effortds to try and make that happen.

I am not going to contend with you or others in an endless debate about those positions as regards my faith. That is not what I use or view FreeRepublic to be about. You may...I do not.

Duffy crossed the line many, many times......

Apparently flew under the radar....

Even gave her own "opus's" a few times...But had a change of "heart" as many times....and came back to FR.

I expect Duffy back...in one form or another...sooner than later.

The challenge will be who she becomes....
