Mitt’s Attack on Crony Capitalism
National Review Online ^ | January 20,2012 | Larry Kudlow

Posted on 01/21/2012 3:04:04 PM PST by Hojczyk

“You’ve got to stop the spread of crony capitalism. [Obama] gives General Motors to the UAW. He takes $500 million and sticks it into Solyndra. He stacks the labor stooges on the NLRB so they can say no to Boeing and take care of their friends in the labor movement. . . . He has to bow to the most extreme members of the environmental movement. He turns down the Keystone pipeline, which would bring energy and jobs to America.

“My view is capitalism works. Free enterprise works. . . . There’s nothing wrong with profit, by the way. That profit went to pension funds, to charities. It went to a wide array of institutions. . . . And by the way, as enterprises become more profitable, they can hire more people. I’m someone who believes in free enterprise. I think Adam Smith was right. And I’m gonna stand and defend capitalism across this country, throughout this campaign. I know we’re going to get hit hard from President Obama, but we’re gonna stuff it down his throat and point out that it is capitalism and freedom that makes America strong.”

The issue of crony capitalism should be front and center in this campaign. President Obama defends his cronies instead of the so called 99 percent. That’s his contradiction. Big Labor, Big Business, and Big Green Energy are collections of cronies with big jobs, big salaries, and big privileges. Nothing to do with the 99 percent.

But Governor Romney can go even further to slam crony capitalism. This is where tax-reform and deep spending cuts come in. A flattening of tax rates should be accompanied by the elimination of cronied tax deductions, exemptions, and carve-outs. Even more, we should get rid of crony corporate welfare wherever it exists,

Hey Myth,

Get back to me once you have stuck to one set of issue positions for more than a year.

Then, and only then, can I and other conservatives start to trust you.

Your track record precedes you, and you cannot be trusted!

Whatever position he thinks will win the day. Tomorrow he’ll spew something differently. Pro-choice/pro-life, pro-gay/pro-family, anti-gun/pro-gun, anti-Reagan/pro-Reagan, etc. About the only position he remains constant in is pro-RomneyCare (socialized healthcare).

It’s not ‘crony capitalism’ when it’s a ‘rescue plan’.

I’m disappointed in Kudlow. He complains that Newt doesn’t explain his tax reform plan — which is a 15% flat rate but preserves all the key deductions — but glosses over the fact that Mitt barely has a tax reform plan at all. Mitt’s “plan” involves leaving the individual income tax exactly as it is, except to make dividends and capital gains untaxable income. He also plans to reduce the corporate income tax from 35% to 25%. Whoopdeedoo.

Kudlow goes on to say Mitt “could go further”. No kidding, considering he hasn’t proposed anything like the type of pro-growth tax reform that Kudlow thinks he “could”. Mitt released a 160 page economic plan in Sept. If he was capable of bold thinking in tax reform, he would have done it by now.

Mitt is in this for the glory, not because he has any strong inclination to implement conservative fiscal or economic ideas.

Whether Newt "blows up" or not is not the point.

Myth cannot be trusted under any set of circumstances to do the right thing as POTUS; that, my FRiend is the point.

No Myth, no how, no way, ever!

“You’ve got to stop the spread of crony capitalism. [Obama] gives General Motors to the UAW."

Except just a few days ago he said how Obama was trying to save the company with the bailout and more or less supported it. Flip, meet flop.

“You’ve got to stop the spread of crony capitalism. [Obama] gives General Motors to the UAW. “

What a hypocrite, there is a youtube of Romney extolling Obama’s handling of GM.

...overturn and upend the prevailing Washington, D.C., establishment

The Republican nominee ought to pledge not to appoint to office anyone connected with Goldman Sachs. The first question to a prospective nominee ought to be, "Are you now, or have you ever been..." and the second ought to be, "Are you willing to sign an agreement that after you leave government service, you will not accept employment from...?" My list for the questions would include Goldman Sachs, the Chinese, and the Saudis.

“From the reports I have seen Larry has been shilling for Mitt.”

‘Shilling’ doesn’t quite do justice to Kudlow’s service in behalf of the Mittster.

I was listening to Kudlow online last night and he was apoplectic. Stephen Moore of the Club for Growth was one of Larry’s guests and you could tell that even he was surprised by Kudlow’s wild rage against the voters of South Carolina.

It was great radio.
