Tonette Walker, GOP leaders rally governor's supporters

Wauwatosa - Tonette Walker delivered a message straight from husband Gov. Scott Walker on Saturday, telling supporters not to be ruled by anger and assuring them that Republican reforms are working.

"The other side has had a voice for over a year, but it's now time for us to speak up," Tonette Walker said during a rally at Hart Park.

For about three hours, a large crowd stood on packed snow and ice to show they were standing with the governor during the first large Republican rally of the recall season.

A coalition of Democrats, unions and a grass-roots organization called United Wisconsin filed recall petitions Tuesday against Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and four Republican state senators, setting the wheels in motion for potential elections later this year.

The pro-Walker rally was organized in only a few days by a group of young activists who batted around ideas on Facebook.

"We finally have a governor worth standing out in the cold for," said Paris Procopis of Wauwatosa, one of the rally organizers. "He did what he promised, and we are motivated."

The crowd heard from top Republican leaders, including three candidates for the U.S. Senate: former Gov. Tommy Thompson, former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald (R-Horicon).

Walker did not attend.

"We are Wisconsin. We are Republicans. We are taking our state back," Thompson said. "The only thing better than Scott Walker winning the first time is Scott Walker winning the second time. We are going to show them once and for all that we are for real and we are not going back."

"I stand with Scott Walker," said Neumann, who lost to Walker in a Republican primary in 2010.

A couple thousand Scott Walker supporters listen to speakers Saturday at Hart Park in Wauwatosa.

I should add that the temperature was in the single digits today with a high below 30 degrees around 2 pm.

Looks to be considerably more than “a couple of thousand”.

Keep these rallies going. Let's beat the unions!

Great to see a gathering of calm, collected, responsible people who aren't, like liberal protests, holding vulger signs, cussing, calling names, and desecrating the property. Democrats want to go back to the days of a $3.6 billion deficit, a $1 billion Democrat tax hike passed in the middle of the night with no public input allowed, a Democrat governor unlawfully raiding funds to cook the state's books, taxpayers not only supporting their own health and retirment plan but the union plan as well, a union that ran the Democrats and state, union workers being forced to join a union against their wishes, collective bargaining that among other things won't let a municipality or school use volunteer labor, and more.

Go to this web site and donate a couple of dollars

Gov. Scott Walker

Was there a good reason to not hold this event indoors?

Rent?

I think this rally was spontaneously hatched by supporters on Facebook. It was very cold, but Wisconsin folks are hardy.

It was too cold for me, and I cheered them on from home.
