Saturday Night Losers: Dick Morris & the Media Elites
Gateway Pundit ^ | January 22,2012 | Jim Hoft

Down goes Juan Williams. Down goes John King. Down goes the media elites. And, down goes the Dick Morris who told us Rick Santorum won the debate on Thursday night.

Hear the roar. Edmund Wright at The American Thinker describes the failure of the liberal media and Republican elites to understand the passion, the intensity and frustration of the Great Unwashed after three years of Barack Obama and a corrupt Obama-coddling media.

After Thursday’s debate was over in Charleston, I assumed that Newt had not only survived the Marianne episode, but had benefitted from it. I also figured he would win S.C. and that Santorum would fade as a challenger to him. Everyone I knew who saw the debate reached this same conclusion.

Yet as incredible as it may seem, all day Friday we were treated to multiple reviews from members of the conservative media on how Rick Santorum “won” the Thursday night debate in Charleston and that how this would help him in South Carolina. Dick Morris flatly proclaimed that Santorum did so well he might sweep in and take second from Newt Gingrich. Morris also predicted this would mean a S.C. win and nomination for Mitt Romney.

Charles Krauthammer, meanwhile, admitted that Newt won it “in the first three minutes” but that Santorum had a very strong night after that.

And I’m thinking: what debate did these folks watch? Do they not pay attention to the crowd reaction? Do they not know what it indicates? Admittedly, Santorum got off some attacks that might have seemed like good hits, but they fell flat in the hall. Newt dominated crowd reaction, Mitt was a pretty clear second in that regard and of course Ron Paul’s crowd was the few, the proud, the lo

“that is precisely what we will see from the MSM in the coming days, the more so for every primary that Gingrich wins”

On CBS this am (around 9 CST) there was a black woman who proclaimed she was a journalist and a member of the much maligned media and she was allowed (as an unbiased media member?) to rage on for a good 15 minutes about how horribly the media was treated by Gingrich and how terrible he is as a person and as a candidate. It was hilarious as her hair was a mass of curls that stood straight out from her head, it looked as if her head was exploding and I guess it was. I laughed and laughed at her posturing as a victim of the mean, media bashing Gingrich.

Toe-sucker continues his 0-80 streak of correct predictions while trying to steer traffic to his website.

I give Morris a lot of credit. He is a whore. Sold himself to the highest bidder. He isnt an ideologue.

I have no respect for ideologues who pretend to be pundits. People like Matthews and Ross.

"...what the voters are craving in the debates and on the stump is someone who can look liberals squarely in the eye and tell them why we are right and they are wrong. The American conservative base has had to put up with being called stupid, racist, greedy and unfair for decades by not only the Democrats but the vast majority of the media. The pent up frustration of these decades is magnified by the fact that George H. W. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush and John McCain would not or perhaps could not confront this."

This is exactly what I felt when I cheered Newt's decimation of Juan Williams and John King.

"What they [the elites] don't understand is what the roar means. The roar is passion. The roar is intensity. The roar is pent up frustration. The roar, put another way, is the national mood of conservatives. It is a roar that will demand a fighter. It will demand that those who want our votes must not cower in the face of the liberal template. If fact, it is a roar that demands that we do not accept any liberal templates."

Nobody in Washington -- not even "our" representatives and pundits -- understands the depth and intensity of our anger and frustration. Washington has become a pile of putrid vomit that we want to spew from our lives.

I agree with many of the values he projects, but what you here him say is not who he is behind the closed doors.

Sooo, exactly who IS he behind those closed doors? Is it anything more substantial than mere rumor? Just curious.

It’s his obnoxious personality they complain about more than anything else.

I keep hearing that Santorum had a good debate-what did he say that was noteworthy?

What I’m beginning to realize is that many of those in the print, television, and radio media who I considered to be conservative have shown their hand. They’re NOT on our side. They’re not “strict constructionist” conservatives. The true conservatives appear to me to be mostly bloggers on the internet and those of us average citizens who keep informed on sites like FreeRepublic.

Somebody who was really passionately conservative in his heart would not be given a forum on TV, print, or radio. He would be relentlessly destroyed. Any company daring to advertise in his forum would be told to dump him, "or else".

He has had a couple of weeks of annoying shows. It’s like he is trying to spin his way out of his failed attack on Gingrich (and Perry), where he tried to equate questioning Romney’s business record at Bain with an attack on “our capitalist system” itself. That kind of studied avoidance leads to boring shows.

Thanks for the ping. The crowd reaction to Newt’s statement about the elite media was amazing — and encouraging.

Morris was wrong about Romney winning the election but Santorum did win the debate on the merits.

Newt won on style points for smacking down the media and his pugilist “knock out Obama” personality which is what a lot of people are looking for.
