WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The Republican National Committee adopted a resolution calling for "a united Israel governed under one law for all people."
The resolution passed last week at an RNC conference in New Orleans. Some liberal bloggers suggested that the resolution effectively called for a single state in Israel and the West Bank, with citizenship rights extended to all.
With a preamble that describes the land of Israel as God-given to the Jews, the resolution resolves "that the members of this body support Israel in their natural and God-given right of self-governance and self-defense upon their own lands, recognizing that Israel is neither an attacking force nor an occupier of the lands of others; and that peace can be afforded the region only through a united Israel governed under one law for all people."

Text of the RNC Resolution sponsored by Cindy Costa, Committeewoman South Carolina:
AN RNC RESOLUTION TO COMMEND THE NATION OF ISRAEL FOR ITS RELATIONS WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
WHEREAS, Israel has been granted her lands under and through the oldest recorded deed as reported in the Old Testament, a tome of scripture held sacred and reverenced by Jew and Christian, alike, as the acts and words of God; and
WHEREAS, as the Grantor of said lands, God stated to the Jewish people in the Old Testament; in Leviticus, Chapter 20, Verse 24: Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey; and
WHEREAS, God has never rescinded his grant of said lands; and
WHEREAS, along with the grant of said lands to the Jewish people, God provided for the non-Jewish residents of the land in commanding that governance must be in one law for all without drawing distinction between Jewish and non-Jewish citizens, as contained in Leviticus 24:22, and
WHEREAS, the Nation of Israel declared its independent control and governance of said lands on May 14, 1948, with the goal of re-establishing their God-given lands as a homeland for the Jewish people; and
WHEREAS, the United States of America, having been the first country to recognize Israel as an independent nation and as Israels principal Mideast ally, has enjoyed a close and mutually beneficial relationship with Israel and her people; and
WHEREAS, indeed, Israel is the United States of Americas greatest friend in the Mideast; and
WHEREAS, the roots of Israel and the roots of the United States of America are so intertwined that it is difficult to separate one from the other under the word and protection of almighty God; and
WHEREAS, there are those in the Middle East who have sought to destroy Israel from its inception as anation; and
WHEREAS, those same enemies of Israel also seek to destroy the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the United States of America and the nation of Israel have enjoyed cordial and mutually beneficial relations since 1948, a friendship that should continues to strengthen with each passing year.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Republican Nation Committee that the committee by this resolution commends the nation of Israel for its relations with the United States of America.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the members of this body support Israel in their natural and God-given right of self-governance and self-defense upon their own lands, recognizing that Israel is neither an attacking force nor an occupier of the lands of others; and that peace can be afforded the region only through a united Israel governed under one law for all people.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Senate Leadership and each of the legislatures of the states within the United States of America with the request and recommendation of this body that a similar resolution to that stated herein be proposed within their respective bodies.
It’s none of the RNCs business how Israel exercizes their sovereignty.
Agreed. They are not even good at faking conservatism anymore.
RNC, You will accept the platform we the Republicans of the 50 states send you and no other.
You do not lead us; We lead you.
Israel is a sovereign nation and as such it is the will of your Republican consituents that you stay out of her business.
Should you fail to honor the legitimate relationship of the delegates of the 50 states to the RNC. We will turn each of you into the streets.
“One state” is implicitly a rejection of the “two state” solution — ie, no Palestinian state.
er, I may have misunderstood the headline and responded accordingly.
Nonetheless, Don’t mess with Texas or Israel. LOL.
See Freeper Condor Flight’s post #7. It sounds like just ONE state.
“What is one law?”
IOW, one Israeli state, NOT an Israel and a Palestinian state. The US (and both parties) have previously supported a “two state” solution; this rejects that, and calls for Israel to administer all of the land west of the Jordan, as Israel,
with one (Israeli) law.
Uhhhhh......?????
“BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the members of this body support Israel in their natural and God-given right of self-governance and self-defense upon their own lands, recognizing that Israel is neither an attacking force nor an occupier of the lands of others; and that peace can be afforded the region only through a united Israel governed under one law for all people.”
Well .... Yeah they could’ve been more clear, if that’s really what they meant. Hm.
Be it further resolved that the RNC not get involved in the internal affairs of other democracies. If they want to take a position on a dictator, that’s one thing. It’s like my Illinois telling Texas what to do; or Chicago telling my Normal what to do; or my neighbor a block away telling me what to do.
Please Please see post 15.
Read it. How is what I posted wrong? Are they not stating that they support Israels right to self-governence?
Where does that organization get its money? I think the last time I sent them a check was in the 1970s.
I think you are right, The RNC was sending a message to Israel of OUR support of her in spite of our stupid leader.
That was my take.
