This is the first time that I can remember where Republicans turned on the front-runner to help their race. Says a lot about the party and power in 2012.

I agree. But I think what we’re observing is more due to The Establishment not getting their way. They ALWAYS get their way...except in very rare circumstances when the Republican electorate (yes, there is one) steps up and essentially says: “No, our situation in the world is too dangerous for a country-club guy that is more interested in losing with dignity (ala Bob Dole, and McCain), than winning with a mandate.”
The last time this happened was 1980. Hopefully 2012 will be the next time.
