Carney: Obama sees ‘regrettable level of hyperpartisanship’ in Washington
By Amie Parnes - 01/23/12 01:03 PM ET

Even though he promised to bridge partisanship before coming into office, President Obama “accepts that there is still a regrettable level of hyperpartisanship,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said on Monday.

Carney said there were “instances” in which the tone on Pennsylvania Avenue “got in the way of moving forward.”

“But that's not an excuse to stop trying,” Carney said.

The spokesman said Obama believes there's still an opportunity to work with Congress to accomplish “big things.”

Carney used an example of the GOP's persistent call last year to release Obama's birth certificate as a “gratuitously stupid side show.”

“Our challenges are too big to be dragged down by these kinds of things,” he said.

He rejects the idea that nothing can get done in an election year," Carney said, adding that the president will "very much call for action" in tomorrow's State of the Union address.

He's right. I mean, when you get to the point where a senior Republican responds to a legitimate question by throwing his nose up in the air and saying "I won," we really have reached the depths of non-cooperation.

Oh, wait. That was 0bama. Never mind.

Yeah, that was really partisan of the GOP to insist that the man in the White House produce a printed copy of his Birth Certificate to show that he was eligible for the position he was usurping...

Oh? It wasn't the GOP leadership meanies that were asking for proof? Just Donald Trump and some of those mean guys on conservative talk radio?

Oh? And Mr. Obama never produced a printed copy of his birth certificate?

Oh? And the pdf forgery he posted on his website shows that Mr. Obama Jr. is not a natural born citizen?

Never mind...Can't be partisan now, can we?

“Our challenges are too big to be dragged down by these kinds of things,” he said.

But of COURSE they are all so important that we dirt-chewers should have learned how smart they, the Worshipers of the Won, all are for recognizing little bammy's Greatness-In-All-Things Magnificence.

President Obama most magnanimously “accepts" that despite our defective nature his brilliance will overcome it and he will succeed in the Holy Quest of bringing about the miracle of Utopian communist AmeriKKKa.

On a sane note, I have noticed that the Praetorian Guard has actually uttered the words "birth certificate" without apparent provocation 2-3 times in about a week.

The issue is eating on him and they are probably plotting how to handle the flareup of the issue in Georgia.

If he is actually disallowed from the ballot there we are gonna hear some REAL whoppers.

Is this what the psychiatric folks are talking about when they say, “projection”?

I think Barry has already accomplished too much.
