“Good thing you weren’t doing a drinking game when Nixon spoke.”

In 1974, I was just turning 21, and living in Berkeley just south of campus.

I clearly remember the night Nixon resigned, and the sporadic street celebrations immediately after. For all of his faults, he still had enough humility and clarity to decided that the nation would be better off without him as POTUS.

I’d LOVE to see history repeat itself... but I’m not holding my breath.

You had quite the front-row seat to Nixon’s resignation! I was in the middle of a big tap-dance number in a community theater production of George M when the news broke. Someone had a transistor radio on backstage and we heard them applauding and whooping in the middle of our number: “Popularity”. Cosmic.

And yes, we can only hope that Dear Reader would have half the humility shown by Nixon. Never happen.
