Well I am not sure about that. I suspect Newt will be seen by a large number of the masses as a fat, rich old white corporate shill, and many in the inner ciies, black or white, will see Newt as a a representative of the rich white a status quo.

There;s a reason we have that clique; if you want a job well done, do it yourself. West will need to be able explain his support for Conservative American values before Black and working class Americans forever. They will want to know why he voluntarily chose to serve in the US and genuinely supports the US Army; they want to know why he, as a Black American, supports a nation that enslaved and lynched and segregated his people for 300 years and traps them in poverty and incarcerates them at such high rates and wont apologize and give reparations. They dont understand and he has to make them understand. Which I have faith he can do.

You should have stopped with the first paragraph. That pretty accurately expresses how a lot of African-Americans will view Newt, and not just them, either.

In paragraph 2, you really let your fantasy run away with you. I don't know the percentages, but only a few people actually think that way. A larger group pretends that they do, and most Blacks don't.

And why "working class"? Do you think when a decorated officer speaks before Black and/or working class Americans getting blamed for slavery and segregation is the common response? There may be a crank or two in the audience, but do you really think most listeners feel that way?

About West's comment: Newt is articulating a conservative message right now that the other candidates aren't. That's something he's right about. That's why Newt won the last primary.

Whether, of all the possible spokesmen for that message Newt's the one most likely to win over African-Americans is hard to believe. It's not because they "hate America," it's because to a lot of people, Black or White, Newt comes across as the old, rich, White guy who wants to keep kids off his lawn, more like McCain or Dole than different. Maybe it's not true or fair, but that's the perception in much of the country.
