Marco Rubio: Mitt Romney is no Charlie Crist (Claims Willard is a Conservative)
Tampa Bay Times ^ | JANUARY 24, 2012 | Marc Caputo

Posted on 01/24/2012 11:39:25 PM PST by Kazan

Newt Gingrich's decision today to bash Mitt Romney for hiring former Charlie Crist loyalists and employees doesn't seem to be sitting well with Sen. Marco Rubio, who drove Crist out of the Republican Party before beating him at the polls in 2010.

Said Rubio: "Mitt Romney is no Charlie Crist. Romney is a conservative. and he was one of the first national Republican leaders to endorse me. He came to Florida, campaigned hard for me, and made a real difference in my race."

The real question now has become if and when Governor Scott will endorse Speaker Gingrich.

It’s silly getting your panties in a wad

Well, FR is certainly Wadded Panties Central lately, or at least some threads are.

Back when I first decided to support Newt for president, half of FR was still screaming on cue "Run Sarah Run!!" and slavishly defending her support of McCain, which sounds to me to be little different from what Rubio is quoted as saying.

But Sarah is still loved, while Rubio is the subject of this morning's Two Minutes Hate. Go figure....

“And Rubio flat out likes Romney.”

Rubio sounded flat out honest. Maybe a politician shouldn’t do that.

There are lots of decent Republicans out there who, on occasion, have said something complimentary about Mitt.

In my opinion, Marco Rubio is one of them.

If Newt Gingrich is going to beat Obama, he will need their support. Calling them "traitors" and "RINO"s and throwing them under the bus is a suicidal move.

"Mitt was popular in FLA in 2008 among us conservatives."

That is not true. Please don't slander us Fl conservatives. Most true conservatives here knew exactly what Mitt was. We still do. Any conservative who supported any member of the liberal troika Rudy Mc Romney and didn't know they were supporting a RINO, was not very well informed.

My guess is you probably thought Rubio was conservative too.

That is one thing I've learned about Florida. Stealth RINOs abound in this state. You can't just go by what comes out of their mouth. You have to pay close attention to what they actually do and the things they have said when they think no one is paying attention. Crist, Martinez, Rubio even the dem Bill Nelson pretends to be conservative in an election year. All of them figure no one is paying attention. But we Fl conservatives have to pay attention or we will keep getting RINOs. So wake up and open your eyes.

Someone who won't repeal Obamacare is no conservative.

The day Marco decided he didn’t like Arizona’s illegal alien law was the day I realized all those liberal votes in the FL Senate he made were an actual reflection of Marco’s beliefs.

I voted for Marco in 2008 but I knew I was voting for a RINO. I also voted for McCain over Obama, though I knew I was voting for a RINO there too. Sarah Palin made him palatable though. But the 2008 election was the last election I vote for a RINO. But never again. Not even if one becomes the republican nominee.

Mitt Romney is the most dishonest and liberal Republican that has ever reached this level, and you want to talk about honesty?

What makes you like Romney and Rubio’s promoting him?

If Marco wants conservatives, the tea party, and Newt Gingrich’s support he should not have endorsed Romney and started attacking Gingrich.

Of course you go to bat for Mitt and his backing, but conservatives do not.

“What makes you like Romney and Rubio’s promoting him?”

That’s strange you should ask that. I never said I like Romney. I actually said I like Rubio. I think I heard Rush even say Rubio would someday be President of the United States.

I’m just pointing out that we’re all dust in the wind. Nobody has the answers. Nobody knows the right people. People keep jumping on and off trains. It’s ridiculous. The train wreck is just around the bend. Nobody else will step up to run because we’ll eat them up alive. Support at your own peril. I’ll wait until the general...and I still like Rubio....which doesn’t translate into anything. WWJD?

Aw hell, I was supporting Newt Gingrich here back last summer when two thirds of FR were convinced that Palin would run, and when Jim Robinson was calling Newt something like "a barely acceptable candidate".

And I still do. So don't throw that Romney crap at me.

The difference is that unlike some Freepers, I have never viewed any candidate through rose-tinted beer goggles. I recognize that Newt has some negatives, and that he is going to need a lot of help to get elected.

For starters, most if not all the people who voted for Romney in closed primaries are going to have to vote for Newt in November. I don't plan to piss any of them off.

You guys show up to cover and make defenses for Romney and defend his support in this most important vote in Florida, when it comes to Romney, you are either with us, or against us.

What?
Are you insane or just a child? I don’t show up anywhere to cover for anyone, Pal. I wear my heart on my sleeve.
I have been strictly a Perry supporter. I don’t have a dog in this hunt. Who in the h ell are you to tell me who I have to be for or against? It’s none of your business what I do in the voting booth unless you happen to be a union thug or a New Black Panther. Maybe you’re the one who just shows up. And who exactly is the “us” of whom you speak? All your disgusting disrespect for your fellow citizens because someone happens to like Rubio....and by the way, Gingrich agreed with him and pulled the ad.

Rubio pushing Romney forces us to pull an anti-Romney ad, and you think that supports your defending Romney’s campaign efforts?

Rubio is against us, he is fighting for Mitt Romney, and you seem to be in his camp.

How long have you been supporting Newt Gingrich?

I have been a vocal supporter of his here since last summer, when you were still wishing for Sarah.

See, the deal here now is that if anyone you like or admire says anything nice about Romney or mentions any of Newt's negatives, we're all supposed to start shrieking "Traitor!!!!" and hang that person in effigy (if we can't get the real thing).

As a Gingrich supporter myself, I find this amusing, especially when it comes from those who were shrieking here three months ago about that well-known turncoat, pro-immigrant, Pelosi lover, Newt Gingrich.

Who’s us??? Good grief. Get a grip. I guess you can’t read. I supported Perry. I support no one now until the general. I don’t live in Florida. By the time my primary comes along, everything will already be decided. Stop trying to belong to the “in crowd” by bullying innocent people.
