January 25, 2012 Gingrich, Romney in Dead Heat in New Florida Poll

By Stephanie Condon

Republican presidential contender Newt Gingrich has erased the double-digit lead his GOP rival Mitt Romney once held in Florida, leaving the two candidates in a dead heat in the latest poll out of the Sunshine state.

Romney leads with 36 percent among likely Republican primary voters in the new Quinnipiac poll, while Gingrich earns 34 percent. The poll, conducted January 19-23, has a margin of error of four points. Former Sen. Rick Santorum garnered 13 percent support while Rep. Ron Paul won 10 percent.

The former speaker has made big gains in Florida in just the past few weeks. In an earlier Quinnipiac poll released out of Florida on January 9, Romney led Gingrich 36 percent to 24 percent. A number of other polls showed Romney leading by double digits in Florida as recently as last week.

On another thread, it’s clear that this 4-5 day poll has strong numbers for Romney the first half, and Newt surging the second half. It’s like they are averaging two polls to conceal the trend.

how can anyone vote for Romney and call themselves a republican.
He stands for obamacare and yes he has just stated he will not repeal it, he stands for the VAT, he stands for the homosexual agenda, he stands or stood for the planned parenthood.

Romney is no different to obama except Romney will give paybacks to different establishment figures.

"The poll, conducted January 19-23…"

Which means this poll doesn't fully take into account Newt's momentum post-SC.

The Communist Broadcast System. Figures.
Always trying to determine the election outcome even before the election. Anyone who believes anything these Obama stooges say, is foolish.

Polls are dubious at best. Stick with the big polling company names...better yet, stick with the actual vote.

Newt is working against the write in vote, so take a friend when you go vote for him.

Of course this is the poll that CBS News would elect to push.

Feer not, it's an old poll that doesn't completely reflect the big Newt win in SC. Check out the latest polls at Real Clear Politics and you will feel a lot better than CBS wants you to.

Note also on the RCP polls that the Florida Chamber of Commerce poll is Registered Voters, another attempt to make Romney look better than he should.

Did I say “Feer not”. Yes I did. Of course I actually know how to spell fere. Or is it fear? I guess there are times when you need to just go ahead and use Jim Robinson's spell checker.

That’s exactly what they’re doing. Someone posted the two separate somewhere earlier on here and post-NC debate Newt is clearly taken the lead.

Maybe they don’t, maybe they call themselves anti-Newts and anti-Obamas?

In an earlier Quinnipiac poll released out of Florida on January 9, Romney led Gingrich 36 percent to 24 percent.

Since the kiddies at Quinnipiac didn't like the result, so they went with the headline favoring Mittens.

BUT the Q-poll shows Gingrich leading in likely FL voters by 6%. Always go with the likely voter poll as they are more accurate.

"Gingrich among likely voters in the Florida Republican presidential primary, but Gingrich gets 40 percent to 34 percent for Romney among likely voters surveyed after the South Carolina primary."

It is a dead heat Romney is dead here in FL because Newt has the heat.

Santorum needs to see the handwriting on the wall and pull out while Romney can still be stopped.
