“It’s gotten to the point if anyone says anything against Newt on here they are idiots, or worse, they think everyone is out to get Newt at every corner.”

A quick look at my posts from today should convince you I am not shy about criticizing Newt. While I am pulling for Santorum, I realize Newt may be our only hope to stop Romney and the GOP establishment (which includes Daniels IMHO)

As to what he has accomplished in Indiana, I think its great. I also think its great what Christie has accomplished in New Jersey but...

Rush's response to Mitch Daniels is interesting, but Daniels' comments about "sending pension checks" to millionaires sounds like "means testing" to me, and that should present a real problem for conservatives.

"Means testing" is just another, less obvious form of relegating citizens into a "classes," through redistributing the money confiscated from some through compulsory taxation, passing it through the Washington shrinking machine, and then "distributing" it to others who have been designated as "deserving." That, of necessity, requires a decision that politicians and bureaucrats are deciding also who is not "deserving."

Say it isn't so that Republicans are going Obama-Lite.

Gov. Daniels and the other Republicans might begin by reading the following summary of principles, which constitutes a level of discourse that could help Americans to evaluate the grave matters before us in terms of:

"1. Does this legislation or idea increase, or decrease, individual freedom and creativity?

"2. Does this legislation or idea increase, or decrease, the power of some citizens over other citizens?

"3. Does this legislation or idea recognize that the persons who will exercise the power are themselves imperfect human beings?

"4. Does this legislation or idea recognize that government is incapable of creating wealth?

"5. Does this legislation or idea authorize taking from some what belongs to them, and giving it to others to whom it does not belong?
If 'thou shalt not steal' is a valid commandment, can we assume that it is meant to apply only to individuals and not to government (which is made up of individuals), even if those persons in power pass laws which sanction such redistribution of the wealth of others?'

"6. Does this legislation or idea encourage, or discourage, the very highest level of morality and responsibility from the individual?
. . .when government makes actions 'legal' by some citizens at the expense of other citizens, the result may be behavior which would not be considered possible by individuals acting alone.

"7. Does this legislation or idea propose that the 'government' do something which the individual cannot do without committing a crime?"**

**7 principles drawn from James R. Evans book, "America's Choice: Twilight's Last Gleaming or Dawn's Early Light," and reprinted in a Stedman Corporation (Asheboro, NC) booklet entitled "I'm Only One, What Can I Do?"

To be clear, I do NOT want Daniels to get in this race. It’s too late. He doesn’t want to be in the race (or his wife doesn’t).

Anyway, call me stingy, but I would like him to remain our guv. That said, Pence should be a great Guv too.

So far you’re repeating all the lies the media and Congressional fat cats spout about Newt. They’re pooping in their silk panties at the thought of Gingrich controlling the executive branch.

You are a confrontational person. "Daniels is no conservative." Then later "You're right he is conservative." Now this?

I'll vote for Lindsay Lohan if she is the candidate running against O'bama in November.

Newt? He would make a decent president, maybe even good. But I have a trust issue. It has nothing to do with ethics or adultery or anything else in the media. My issue is his pandering (I hope) to MMGW, Green Energy, Guvmt Healthcare, etc. He does have an opportunistic past (post politician) in the last few years. He sided with Pelosi and Al Gore. Then he said it was a mistake? Newt doesn't make those kind of mistakes (I hope). The alternative is that he can be easily influenced or swayed intellectually. That would be a disaster.

So take your media chump accusations and fly a kite. Then grow up and use some manners. A modicum of respect for your fellow FReepers might serve you well.

I know what you mean with Christie. In a way I see he and newt being celebrated for the same thing, the candor in which they challenge the press and the establishment. I too like Christie but he would have problems with his social liberalism.
