Age of environmental fear
The Washington Times ^ | Jan 24, 2012 (Mary Lou Retton B-Day) | Rich Trzupek

Government regulators, environmental groups and the news media tell us that the air we breathe is polluted, the water we drink is tainted, our orange juice contains a fungicide, and evil corporations are hoping to make a profit at Mother Earth’s expense. They also remind us that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other federal agencies are protecting us by fighting the greedy capitalists who seek our destruction. Don’t believe it. The United States is among the cleanest nations on the planet.

We should celebrate *both* our energy bounty, and Mary Lou Retton (and not necessarily in that order).

That is true and it deserves repeating - again and again and again and again and again and...

There was probably a way to work “Energetic Booty” into there too, but it would be disrespectful, I guess....

San Francisco Greenies are/have been trying to stop the America’s Cup races this summer/fall in San Francisco bay.

They claim WATER POLLUTION & DIMINISHED AIR QUALITY if the races are held there.

These are large SAIL boats, IIRC. They use the wind to move. I cannot for any reason think of how using the wind in a sail would diminish the quality of the air....no matter how much I try.

They could only pollute the water if they dump waste into the water. Large ships carrying goods in containers, carrying cars made in Japan, etc, go into the docks at San Francisco every day. IMO, they would be far more likely to be polluting the water than a large SAILING ship.

The Greenies are doing their best to stop these races. So far, they have been blocked. But it will be a long summer until the event comes & goes.

Meanwhile, the OWS protesters have polluted every square inch of area they are covering in SF, Oakland, & other locations.

Why does the government allow for the Haarp project to hurt the Van Allen Belt?
European Parliament issues warnings on HAARP
http://news.exopoliticsinstitute.org/index.php/european-parliament-issues-warnings-on-haarp/

These military tests are liable to disrupt the Van Allen belt for a long period. The earth’s magnetic field could be disrupted over large areas, which would obstruct radio communications. According to US scientists it could take hundreds of years for the Van Allen belt to return to normal. HAARP could result in changes in weather patterns. It could also influence whole ecosystems, especially in the sensitive Antarctic regions.

“The United States is among the cleanest nations on the planet.”

Being the cleanest pig in a pig sty doesn’t mean the pig is clean. Yes, great progress has been made. It’s an example of American Exceptionalism. So why do so many want to reverse that progress and do away with the EPA and other environmental regulations and go back to the “good old days” where companies could dump their untreated filth/sludge into rivers and water supplies? And make the air we breathe poisonous? One reason companies go to China is because there are zero pollution regulations. I have seen pictures of Chinese cities,,,so filthey from pollution that the people have to wear masks over their mouths and noses.

“Who pays the price for ignoring progress and focusing on fear?”

A better question to ask would be “Who who benefits by ignoring progress and focusing on fear?”.

There is a lot of ground between retracting all environmental regulations and continually tightening air quality standards to the point that the regulations required to maintain the standards completely choke industry to death. We’re much closer to the latter than the former. Calling for a complete recall of environmental regs is horribly irresponsible, I agree. Continuing on the regulatory path the EPA is taking is economic murder - and a murder committed not to help the planet, but simply an attempt to grab political power. Not global, but unearthly warming is a fitting end for these job-killers.
