Santorum campaigned very hard in Iowa and it paid off. I think he went around every county in a small truck. Iowa is a smaller state than is Florida, so it may have been easier to get around. Plus he had more time being as it was the first one. He only has a week or so between one primary from the next, so he doesn’t have the time to visit all the counties like he did in Iowa.

I think your right. I didn't think much of Santorum to begin with, and I could not for the life of me figure out where the heck he came from in Iowa. Then I saw him in a town hall in NH on C-span, and I knew that's what made him in Iowa. It's that retail politics. He shook everyone’s hand in the whole place, and he didn't dance around the hard questions either. Problem is like you say, that won't work in these huge states with short time frames. Santorum is average in the debates, but he's magic at the grass roots. He won't make it, but it's too bad because he's good at what he does.
