William Jefferson Gingrich [BAD BEAT, RIVERED]
New York Sun ^ | January 25, 2012 | R. EMMETT TYRRELL

Posted on 01/25/2012 3:53:39 PM PST by Nonstatist

Newt up against the Prophet Obama would be a painful thing to watch. He might be deft with one-liners but it would be futile. There are .. uncommitted voters to be cultivated in 2012 — all would be unmoved by Newt’s juggling of conservative shibboleths..

Now Newt is hustling my fellow conservatives .. The last time around he successfully hustled conservatives in the House of Representatives and on the House impeachment committee.. He blew the impeachment and .. his role as Speaker. He now says Republicans in the House were exhausted with his great projects. Nonsense, they were exhausted with his atrocious leadership...

He is playing the liberal media card and saying he embodies conservative values. Newt is hoping conservatives suffer amnesia. Perhaps they cannot recall mere months ago when this insufferable whiz kid was lambasting the great Congressman Paul Ryan for “right-wing social engineering” — more evidence of Newt’s not-so-hidden longing for the approval of the liberal media.

Newt and Bill ..went on to create empires, Bill in philanthropy and cheap thought, Newt in public policy and cheap thought. Bill has wrung up an unprecedented $75.6 million since absconding from the White House with White House loot and shameless pardons. Newt .. got between $1.6 million to $1.8 million from Freddie Mac, and he lobbied for Medicare Part B while receiving, according to the Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney, “Big Bucks Pushing Corporate Welfare.” Now after a lifetime in Washington he is promoting himself as an outsider.

Conservatives should not be surprised by the scandals that lie ahead, if they stick with him. Those of us, who raised the question of character in 1992, were confronted by an indignant Bill Clinton, treating the topic as a low blow. By now we know. Character matters.. Newt has Clinton’s character.

Just out of curiousity, would you rather have Mrs. Palin or Mr. Gingrich bringing the sammiches and drinks?

So was it the article or the poster adding his own words ?

I hope that articles of good conservative writers won’t be banned here, I was never a fan of Tyrell but he was at some time a major ally in conservative ideas.

Re your link #3, I look forward to finding Pelosi’s “confidential” disqualifiers.

You’re welcome. Newt is like Obi-Wan Kenobi. He’s our only hope.

If I recall correctly Terrell gave David Brock his start in DC. The ultimate result of that is mediamatters.borg. I always trust what he says. /s

Palin can serve the snacks, unless it’s too hard and she walks away halfway through.

Gingrich, I hope, will be too busy.

How did Newt blow the impeachment? Didn’t that happen in the Senate?

What he is referring to is that a lot conservatives including most on this forum at the time questioned if Newt was serious about the impeachment and had the moral authority to carry through with impeachement as he was being blackmailed by Hildebeest with the FBI files.

When Newt left, the Dems then took out Livington. They thought they had defanged the Republican leadership and there would be no impeachment. But in the interim, Tom "The Hammer" DeLay did an incredible job of leadership and organized the impeachment. He was sold out in the Senate by his own party led by the ultimate political crossdresser Phil Gramm and the future crossdresser Arlen Specter who infamously invoked Scottish law with his impeachment vote.

I’ll refer you to what I posted before. Jim has been very clear that FR will not tolerate bashing Newt to insure a RINO wins nomination. He is sick of liberals, RINOs, and establishment republicrats playing their “divide the conservatives” games to insure a RINO is nominated. Newt is the most conservative candidate who can win the nomination. If you are going to be a useful idiot for the RINOs expect to be zotted.

Don't you mean Trent Lott, rather than Phil Gramm?

If I get thrown off my favorite website despite my consistent donations and my abiding love and respect for JimRob, so be it, but this article is exactly how i feel and worry about Newt Gingrich.

Character matters. Newt has none of it. He debates well, but his leadership will probably cause most FReepers to regret their vote.

There is still a conservative in the race who nearly got 20% of the vote in SC without getting much coverage and being outspent by miles. I wish Santorum could get traction because he has good character and will work with congress as well as listen to the people. He I believe would make a good President and rise to the occasion. He is a true conservative and would make a fantastic commander in chief.

I wish we would at least consider this article as showing some serious weakness with Newt. It is good to shake up the statist republicans but we don’t want to die doing it.

Newt blew the impeachment because he laid low knowing he was living in a glass house vis a vis adultery. He let conservatives down. And yes I know that Clinton was impeached for perjury. We got 1% of Newt instead of 100% when we needed it.

“If I recall correctly Terrell gave David Brock his start in DC”

I do know that Terrell began featuring David Frum around 1990, one of the reasons that I decided TAS was no longer worth reading.
