Newt implemented a Reagan agenda while speaker. Romney explained he is NOT a Reagan republican. Newt has his weaknesses, but he is 80/20 a conservative. Romney is well under 50% conservative. He is miles better than commiebama but that ain’t saying much. He’s a terrible choice to be our party head.

Ann Coulter was on O’Reilly Tuesday night and she was desperately angry about Newt beating Romney in SC. As distraught as I’ve seen her. Her vision is that Romney is a cool, competent business titan who will beat Obama handily, while Newt will lose in a landslide. I think she’s been around DC too long and lacks the intuition to see what Romney is - and is not. To my mind, it is so obvious that Romney is immature because he’s rarely been challenged and has had almost everything go his way in life. He nervous giggles like a teenage girl. Obama is a cold fish with a personality disorder who will take down anyone in his way, aided at every turn by the media. Thus, Romney is not up to the task of defeating him. Yet she can’t see it. Her pal Drudge is continuing her Tuesday rant via his site.
It’s also possible that honest people can disagree, too, over who is best to lead.

Every morning I have always checked Drudge to see what will be discussed here that morning. I didn’t today. Not because he is so anti Newt, but that he seems to be giving Romney a pass.

I totally agree that Newt, unlike Romney, would be susceptible to powerful pulls from the right. Does that mean he has less of a "tethering?" I dunno. I think Bush was completely tied to one idea, namely that he had to protect the U.S. from foreign attacks at all costs---and that led him to do all sorts of other un-conservative things. Reagan's #1 goal was destroying communism, and that led him to sign off on big-deficit budgets and even to ignore his own policy of no negotiations with terrorists. But he achieved his goal.
I don't think President Newt would ever compromise the safety of the U.S. militarily, nor would he (generally) do anything to harm the U.S. economy. I do think that without proper pressure, he'd cave to the global warming crowd and the single-payer crowd. But he can be pushed and pulled and reasoned with. Romney can't because he is firmly "tethered" . . .

Newt is what he is. I am not happy about the people in this race, we loose either way. Newt has a better chance of representing my views on some things. Mitt is to the left of Obama more than he is on the right.
