Indiana House Democrats end long right-to-work fight, unions dealt blow in Rust Belt
Washington Post ^ | 1/26/2012 | ap

In the end, they just didn’t have the votes.

For two legislative sessions, Indiana Democrats fought the divisive labor measure known as right-to-work. They offered amendments aimed at changing the bill. They sought to put the issue before voters in a referendum. And in their most high-profile gambit, House Democrats staged occasional boycotts to deny the Republican-dominated chamber enough members to conduct business.

But that all ended Wednesday when the minority party acceded to the mathematical reality of the Republican’s 60-40 majority in the chamber. Democrats showed up, and the Indiana House voted 54-44 to make Indiana the 23rd right-to-work state.

Another win for America. Now let's win some more states, win the US Senate and get the Marxist out of the White House.

Funny how thorny issues supported by conservatives and Republicans are “divisive”, but those pushed by Democrats never are...

That giant sucking sound you hear will be the mass exodus of automobile related companies from Michigan truckin’ on down I-69 and just over the border.

Once upon a time Indiana had a significant portion of the auto industry. That was part of why that track got built in Indianapolis.

I’d have to look ‘em up to find all of the companies that did business there, but I do recall off the top of my head that Studebaker was based in South Bend.

Michigan got the auto industry due to the Detroit river. Iron mined in the UP could be delivered to Detroit at minimal cost.

Indiana needs to find out who those 6 Republicans were ,that voted against this bill, and think about a change.

“Even the unions know that their days in Michigan are numbered.”

That’s so much crap. Your boy Snynerd has already made it clear on countless occasions that he doesn’t want to see any RTW bills on his desk, that he views taking on organized labor as akin to touching the 3rd rail in Michigan politics. His boy Randy Richardville (faux conservative) Monroe, is holding up a RTW bill in the senate and has been for months.

Yeah, there’re some goonion members who don’t allow the goonions to do their thinking. There are a hell of a lot more who love their goonions and are glad to have someone else do their thinking.

Rick Snynerd is no Scott Walker or Mitch Daniels—that takes gonads.

I think it important to note that the right-to-work bill doesn't HAVE to have any effect on unions. Union are still allowed to solicit members. If they can prove to prospective members that they provide services that justify the dues, there need not be any reduction.

Unless, of course, unions don't supply value to their members. Or cause them to be unemployed because they insist on above-market wages.

Unions seem to think it's no problem for corporations to compete in the marketplace; so why is it a big problem for unions to compete in the marketplace?

Snyder will sign it if it lands on his desk just like Jenny Granholm signed a lot of things she hated.

What the MSM fails to remember is that Indiana was a right to work state before the Democrat landslide of 1964. The Democrats were more than happy to repeal right to work without submitting it to a referendum.

It's taken Hoosiers 47 years to return a sufficient Republican majority to restore the law.

Mitch Daniels was initially opposed to RTW Law. Teamsters even had a video of such. However, he changed a year or so ago. Hopefully Gov. Snyder will do likewise....

I believe Delaware and NH lost their RTW status at that time as well due to LBJ landslide.
