Drudge, conservative media criticize Newt Gingrich
Politico ^ | January 26, 2012 | Jim Vandehei and Mike Allen

Newt Gingrich better hope voters who lapped up his delicious hits on the “elite media” and liberals don’t read the Drudge Report this morning. Or the National Review. Or the American Spectator. Or Ann Coulter. If they do, Gingrich comes off looking like a dangerous, anti-Reagan, Clintonian fraud. It’s as if the conservative media over the past 24 hours decided Gingrich is for real, and they need to come clean about the man they really know before it’s too late. This is just a sampling of what’s hitting Newt:

Honestly, I don’t know what to believe about Newt Gingrich anymore. But I’ll tell you what... If the Republican establishment and so-called “conservative” media think this scorched earth campaign against Gingrich is going to endear me any further to Mitt Romney, they are sadly mistaken.

Rick Santorum continues to look like a better and better alternative to me everyday. Why is he not receiving more attention amidst this destructive nuclear war between Romney and Gingrich?

So for 30 years Gingrich has been a closet left-winger? Somehow we’re to believe the media and establishment Republicans were aware of this all along.

Meanwhile, the same media was attacking him viciously and the establishment was telling us his speech was vitriolic and counter to the GOP cause.

This is all very confusing. It leaves me with more questions for the establishment than for Gingrich.

I guess to be in media, you have to be out of touch with the American majority.

We know, if we go RINO again; we lose one way or the other.

What do these guys propose as a an alternative?

Not necessarily. He’s simply saying he’s shocked by these Newt quotes and stories, but acknowledges there is clearly a coordinated effort coming from somewhere to take Gingrich out and make Romney the nominee.

I don’t think even Rush knows what to believe anymore.

I HAVE heard most all of this about Newt Gingrich before.

I am not at all pleased with some of the things he has done in the past, but as long as the GOP establishment, Mitt Romney, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and the MSM continue using eachother’s ‘squawking points’ over and over to attack him, they drive me ever further in to his ‘camp’.

The way I see it, if ALL of the despicable folks mentioned above hate him as much as they seem to hate him, there MUST be something good about him.

They are trying to distract us from the fact that Romney’s advisers are pushing Romney to go and pull a Hillary! on us.

His advisers are pushing Romney to do this:
1. Push amnesty
2. $2/gallon gas tax
3. VAT and higher taxes for the rich
4. Gay marriage
5. don’t touch Obamacare
6. Negotiations with the Taliban and the Haqqadi network.
7. Continue the reductions of US Defense spending as laid out by the Obama administration.

****What a lot of Conservatives are betting on is that they can at least drag Mitt along...****

Almost there;)

What the GOP establishment’s elected officials and GOP Party apparachiks are betting - is that if Mitt were the candidate he might win and they will let the Dems push him around - or Obama will win and they can continue to be pushed around.

The GOP wusses only want to be elected - not govern or diminish the strangle hold of government on the people. They prefer the Democrats keep doing it - while they sit back and enjoy their perks.

Not too confusing. The RINO/liberal establishment hates Newt because he fought hard for genuine conservatism for decades against liberals and RINOs. His loyalty was to the American people and the cause, not to making buddies with Washington elites, as it should be.

A whole lot of the quotes and spin against Newt are taken out of context or twisted completely, showing you the people attacking him are not interested in the truth. Since Newt’s 90-something percent conservative, they can pick on the instances where he wasn’t of course.

The irony is these are the real RINOs attacking him, yet they’re accusing him of being a RINO. They know that the base doesn’t want RINOs, so they cynically try to win our votes by destroying the guy who isn’t a RINO by calling him one, even though they are. It’s an effective attack used by the left all the time, accuse the other guy of what you yourself are guilty of. Not only does it hurt him but it to some degree immunizes you from being accused of what you really are guilty of.

If you’re a thief and get accused, simply saying you didn’t do it is not as good as pointing to someone else and claiming they did it. It takes the eyes and attention off of you, temporarily at least, but that’s all the time that’s needed in an election.

Apparently while I was asleep the media organizations of the U.S. center-right were taken over by pod people. I can't believe the voices that I once trusted who are now shilling for Romney, the former single term governor whose only "accomplishment" is a program of policy functionally identical to ObamaCare, viz., RomneyCare, with all its new rules, new taxes, its exchanges, its mandates, and its failed promises of "universal coverage" and "bending the cost curve," whatever that means.

The great noise will fail. At least for me. I support Gingrich.

I’m left wondering, why would I now trust them that Romney is conservative?

Romney is conservative like I'm the King of England!

Bingo!!!! They won’t go after him with near the vitriol. I’m not a Newt fan but this whole process has me doing a lot of thinking when it comes to the conservative media and the Republican Party.

“I don’t think even Rush knows what to believe anymore.”

The problem is, coordinated or not, the information is accurate.

Everyone is terrified of Newt.

Driving with Glenn Beck on the radio - Beck was so demented - I played an Elton John tape.

There is now a real looking article circulating on Facebook that says that Calista had a woman arrested in her neighborhood for breast feeding in public. They are desperate.

Anyone who had any dirt or criticisms, lies or half-witted opinions about Newt will be loaded into the collective establishment shotgun, and unloaded now. We all knew it was coming. Newt is a game changer, and Republicans who enjoy playing the existing game hate him.

The obvious explanation for the document dump over the past day is Romney and the establishment wanting to kill Newt. A more complicated explanation, would be political jujitsu by Newt, aiming for another first question, from John King, debate win. Only Newt could be clever enough to pull it off, but don’t be surprised if the first question is on all that’s been dumped and if Newt launches his return to space by putting King’s question into orbit. As Rush pointed out the concept of Newt not supporting Reagan doesn’t fit our general memory of those events, thus is a hard sell and potentially something that can be turned against its sellers. Some of the other potential lines of attack Newt might only be able to foul off, so if he thinks he can hit this one he might prefer it.

So this article strings together a bunch of vague, disconnected associations and statements to try to prove Newt is a “New Ager” and then concludes with “perhaps Newt Gingrich is not a New Ager.” Well, duh. What these analysts need to understand is that people like us prefer to believe “our lying eyes,” the things we Newt do and say, over what they ramble on about.
