Movement aiming to rename Beaver Stadium in coach's honor
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- One Penn State University student sees it as a tribute on a scale that would fit the man.
Another believes it might help repair the damaged relationship between the state's flagship public university and the family of its legendary late football coach.
Still another said simply this about why the university ought to rename all or part of Beaver Stadium for Joe Paterno.
"Yankee Stadium is the house that Ruth built. Beaver Stadium is the house that Paterno built," said Anthony Sardella, 21, a Penn State senior from Albany, N.Y. "I think it's very appropriate."
In the days since the 85-year-old coach died from complications of lung cancer, interest among alumni, students and others has surged in putting the Paterno name on either the 107,000-seat stadium or its football field, which together became a national sports landmark thanks to America's winningest major college football coach.

"Yankee Stadium is the house that Ruth built. Beaver Stadium is the house that Paterno built,"
That makes no sense whatsoever. The Yankees never renamed their stadium "Ruth Stadium".
He did no such thing. Not to rehash this again, but I suggest you do some research and you will discover Paterno was the ONLY person to report Sandusky to those who should have done something about it. Paterno was a coach, not a detective.
It will be interesting to watch how Gov. Corbett (AG during the investigation) and those indicted fair when the final investigations are done.
"False Assertions by the Grand Jury turned the Press and Public against Joe Paterno and Penn State"
part of the ongoing campaign here in Pennsylvania to deal with the zillion things we have which are named “Beaver” (drawing chuckles and snide remarks from all of yinz in other states...)
“All that changed when he became exposed as an enabler of the pedophilia”
I not a Penn State fan but that statement is BS.
beaver stadium? Hah...haha...
In his last interview a couple of weeks ago, Paterno stated that:
1. He didn’t know anything about the 1998 accusations against Sandusky. Nobody has disproved that statement. Hard to do something when you don’t know.
2. He didn’t make Sandusky head coach because Sandusky was too busy with the 2nd Mile charity, which Paterno didn’t have a problem with, but he felt that Sandusky was too distracted with charity work to be a head coach of a Big 10 football team. Again, no indication by Joe Pa that he knew Sandusky was up to anything.
3. The 2002 incident was after Sandusky was gone from the team. It was, according to Joe Pa, the first time he’d heard such accusations. He did not witness the act, and he reported it to the proper authorities.
I’m still waiting for proof that Joe Pa knew or should have known something. All I’ve seen is speculation, accusations, and subjective projection of woulda/coulda/shoulda and very little proof.
Fair assessment.
Jerry Sandusky certainly wasn't a beaver fan.
Unfortunately, once Joe was fired, I knew he wouldn’t be around long enough to testify against Sandusky, and reveal for all to see what he knew, and what he did.
Now that he’s dead, I’m afraid they’ll pile on Joe, knowing that a dead man can’t defend himself.
No, he reported it to the university, as he was supposed to do. He didn’t witness the act and had never, according to his words, heard of any such accusation against Sandusky to that date. Sandusky was also not in his employ at the time and Paterno had no direct authority over him.
After that Sandusky was banned from banned from bringing children to campus and his keys taken away, removing him even further from Joe Pa’s circle of influence.
What I’m saying here is for me to pile on Joe Pa I need more than what I’ve read to this point. Anyone here is welcome to bring actual PROOF to the table for all of us to read and decide.
Ah, the oooold joke: “Ward, don’t you think you were a little hard on the Beaver last night”
Total BS... PSU should name the field JoePa. He was a role model...the library at PSU is named for him (he donated the money). What other coach has a building for learning named after them?
If you don't know what you are talking about STFU!
Weasel Stadium?
Yellow bellied sap sucker Stadium?
Butt-crack Stadium?
Which would be the most appropriate name for the stadium for Pedo State?
