“Cain Rises on Perry’s Implosion,” the headline read, linking a Washington Post poll.
While conservatives like Rush Limbaugh complain bitterly of the intense mainstream-media vetting of the Texas governor, Perry’s woes have been exacerbated by the most powerful editor on the right, as Matt Drudge drives the bad news deep into the conservative echo chamber. Perry’s Drudge problem is the flip-side of Mitt Romney’s Drudge edge, which we wrote about in June.
Just this week, for example, five of six Drudge headlines about Perry include bad news, from polling to policy: “PERRY APOLOGIZES FOR CALLING GOP VOTERS ‘HEARTLESS’... Iowa: Romney 21%, Bachmann 15%, Perry 14%, Paul 12%...POLL: CAIN ON TOP, PERRY PLUMMETS...PERRY: MY WIFE PRODDED ME TO RUN.”
