Delay came on and lit Newt up, but about all he could say was that he kept changing priorities. He said the ethics charges were “crap”

Delay?? He got 3-10 years in prison and is out pending appeal and he's going to light up Newt?

I'd think he would stay low in the "bushes" unless papa Bush instructed him to throw some more gas on the fire.

These sons of bitches are hoping for a brokered convention and then the sheeple will beg Jeb and his mesican wife and druggy daughter and good looking son Jorge, to save us from the bad obama.

I'm going to puke on my keyboard.

I have two things against Romney. Only, really, two.

One is the fact that when Palin was being trashed, those of her attackers who were Repubs always turned out to be Romniacs. When the tea party was being trashed, those of our attackers who were Repubs always turned out to be Romniacs.

The second is this: When Obama won the election, and the GOP was as demoralized as I have ever seen it, most Repubs were doing backflips to prove that they could “reach across the aisle” to work with Obama. A very few stood up to fight back. Some in, some out of government. I said then that this is the moment for anybody to see their baggage forgiven and their past redeemed, if they will just stand up and fight.

Who stood up? A couple of pundits like Beck. Palin. Bachmann and DeMint. I remember Gingrich making some real barn-burner speeches (and then blowing it with his Scozzafava endorsement... I’m still mad about that...) And the “tea party” rebellion, where the rank and file stood up.

And Romney? AWOL. Fight of the century and he is no where to be found. We were fighting with teeth and nails to try and stop the Obamists and Romney was silent. I said then that anyone who sat out this fight was unworthy of being our “leader” because leaders lead. Fighters fight. They don’t sit at home waiting to be crowned “leader”. Romney always thought he deserved to be president just based on his sheer wonderfulness. He didn’t want to get down into the mosh pit to actually fight the Obamists.

He’ll fight Repubs, like Palin and Gingrich. He’ll send his proxies out to trash the tea party. But when we needed his voice two years back he was silent.

Men who shed blood for our country should be honored, in my view, and not mocked.

He was honored for his military service but mocked for his political cowardice 20 years later. Is that unfair?

when he is crushed by Barack Obama a lot of Republicans will have a lot of explaining to do.

No, they won't. They'll pull out the old mantra again: "All the conservative voters stayed home! It's their fault!"

The most damning thing about the establishment campaign is that they continue to pile on Newt, but can’t articulate reasons to vote for Romney. Romney is basically Obama (not in theory but in practice), and is more dangerous in my opinion because he would enlarge the government while posing as a friend, whereas Obama is the enemy we know.

The Establishment is cooking up this whole attack to distract people from the fact that Romney is a liberal RINO.

Romneys pretty much been sliding by throughout this Primary...he has little to dodge for they aren't asking him the hard questions. So of course they are going to be slamming Newt...and he did say "Bring it on". He knows perfectly well who hates him and why....and he is choosing to fight.

My concern is they will go after his family as they did Palin, and not care one way or another if the public likes it or not. THat is a jugular vein for most and I have no doubt Newt's family will take some major hits in the not too distant future.

What’s amazing to me is how men who showed such guts when face to face with the Nazis, the North Koreans, and the North Vietnamese, have those same guts turn to water when dealing with the likes of Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and Katie Couric.

Damn good points.

I remember when they were attacking Palin, and filing one ethics complaint after another- and my first thought was, “Where the hell is everybody? Where’s McCain? Romney? Why is the GOP Establishment sitting back quietly when the former VP pick is being character assassinated? What is wrong with you people? Why is nobody, besides Conservatives, lifting a finger to defend this woman?” (Romney of course, as you note, was operating in the shadows).

I know why they were silent- they either didn’t care because they despised her, or they were cowards who were afraid of being personally attacked if they defended her.

And you’re absolutely right about the rise of the Tea Party, and everything else. Where was Romney? Romney was AWOL. (That would make a good attack line, btw).

I went to youtube and listened to Congressman Delay’s interview. He did not light Newt up. He was there, he is giving his own honest opinion have a pretty realistic assessment to give. Listen, and tell me what you think.

“No, they won’t. They’ll pull out the old mantra again: “All the conservative voters stayed home! It’s their fault!”

This conservative voter has received three phone calls this week from the Republican National Committee asking for a $500 contribution! Each time the caller has politely been told I have zero respect for or interest in the national party. All of my contributions are going directly to candidates. I do not require a middleman.

I'm impressed.

Newt has all the right enemies.

I never would have thunk it.

When in my lifetime has it been a good time for the GOP grassroots to care what a losing GOP POTUS candidate thought/thinks?

Only once, and that was with Ronald Reagan after he lost his first bid for the GOP nod.

Ford, Bush I, Dole????

No. They retired gracefully for the most part and remained non-divisive in the party, for the most part, and until now.

If Romney keeps falling, will we see the Bushes come out of the background (where they have been, supporting Romney) and start behaving like Dole?

Why didn’t Dole go after Clinton the way he’s going after Newt?

I’m surprised but elated that you have posted remarks that each passing day seem to become a very real possibility. It has been reported that the Bush enterprise may just have the ability to pull off such a ploy with the recent news regarding control of voting software.
