How big a demographic do you really think that is? I’m not talking about union-members who might be pro-life and vote Democrat, so much as about these pro-amnesty, pro-affirmative action, anti-law and order, anti-war, pro-life Catholic Democrats. Sounds like a very small group of people, comparatively speaking.

No clue about its numerical size ... the point I am making is that the redistributionist / "unrent garment" types are very common among even the politically active clergy and laity.

They all believe that Democrats get it more often right on "whatever you do to the least of me" / Beatitudes issues than do Republicans.

Some of them simply don't regard abortion more important individually than the accumulation of other issues. If you were to offer these people the revocation of Roe vs. Wade the cost of which were reducing food stamps and deportimg illegal aliens, they would turn it down without hesitation. They vote Democrat easily.

Some do regard abortion as more important in theory, but believe it is not legitimately at issue in practice, because they see Republicans as using opposition to abortion to trick religious people into supporting an anti-poor, pro-war agenda that they would otherwise reject. (These people tend to think the same about gay marriage.) Plenty of these people are active conspiracy theorists, where capitalists schemed to make sure that enough of the post-Roe Supreme Court Justices appointed by Republicans would vote to preserve Roe, and the ability to rile up working class Christians indefinitely. The bottom line is that they simply can't regard any Republican as a vehicle for the Catholic social justice theology that for them is the only point of political engagement.
