Hungary Defies Critics With New Family Law
C-FAM ^ | 1/26/12 | Susan Yoshihara

New York, January 27 (C-FAM) Hungarian leaders have passed a law protecting the traditional family, defying ongoing criticism that their new constitution would curtail abortion and homosexuality. The new law says the family, based upon marriage of a man and a woman whose mission is fulfilled by raising children, is an "autonomous community...established before the emergence of law and the State" and that the State must respect it as a matter of national survival. It says "Embryonic and foetal life shall be entitled to protection and respect from the moment of conception," and the state should encourage "homely circumstances" for child care. It obliges the media to respect marriage and parenting and assigns parents, rather than the State, primary responsibility for protecting the rights of the child. The law enumerates responsibilities for minors, including respect and care for elderly parents.

The purpose of the law is "to create a predictable and safe regulatory environment for family protection and the promotion of family welfare, and to enforce the Fundamental Law," the nation's new constitution, which came into force on January 1st and was passed by a vote of 262-44 last April.

It sort of reaffirms the character of the people who rose against their Communist captors in 1956, does it not! (They also overthrew a Communist takeover in 1919.)

Here's to Hungary!

It’s simply shocking that this is even news-worthy or controversial. Like the sun rising in the east, it’s obvious that this is just how things should be, no explanation required.

AWESOME.

I skimmed through their Constitution. This is a country with its head screwed on right. The Hungarians look to reject the Socialistic values of Western Europe and of the US.

God bless ‘em.

That’s a strange situation over there. They appear to be turning a sharp right on social issues but veering left on economic ones.

Good for Hungary.

They don’t want to be overrun with muslims that are breeding like roaches all across Europe. They are realizing they have to encourage traditional families in order to have at least a replenishing population rate.

Overall not too bad. Didn’t see anything on the right to keep/bear arms, but I only made it about halfway through.

It’s a start.

EXCELLENT!!! Now, if many other EU countries follow suit - the more the better. Makes me want to move to Hungary. Maybe the Magyar tradition gives them courage.

God bless Hungarians and Hungary, quite possibly the only country with a legitimate government in the EU.
