North Carolina Democratic Bench Keeps Shuffling ( Gov Perdue, Rep. Miller retire)
Roll Call ^ | January 26, 2012 | By Joshua Miller

Will the last endangered Democratic official in North Carolina please turn out the lights? Rep. Brad Miller (D) announced his retirement this morning. Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue, facing the likely prospect of an epic defeat this November, announced her decision not to run for a second term this afternoon. Later, politically vulnerable Rep. Mike McIntyre (D) opened the door to running for governor of the Tar Heel State. And a local news report tonight said Rep. Heath Shuler (D) is eyeing a bid for governor as well. A Shuler spokeswoman had no comment.

O no, Heath is the Romney of NC. Maybe less corrupt than Perdue, but I am uncertain of that.

I am praying you are wrong about a civil war. As I see it, it will not be a civil war.. it will be a slaughter of conservative “enemies”. That will leave the commies and socialists of our country in complete control. The mechanisms for this slaughter and the legal defense of such actions have been disguised as national defense and disaster relief. It would be a terrible mistake for conservatives to desire a civil war. I do not want a war on this soil. First, we use our voices and our votes. War kills, only a fool, or a coward who sends other people’ sons, would desire that. That is not to say I am unprepared for hostilities. I have a family to think about. I cannot fathom starting a war like that.

Miller quitting seals the deal for the GOP in the 13th district.

Perdue quitting helps the democrats since almost anyone has a better chance of holding the office than her.

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory (R) nearly won last time and is running again. If DemocRATS are unable to find a concensus candidate, it could be enough to get him in.

Had Miller run, it would have been in the NC-04, not the NC-13. I would have rather have him stay in, since an ugly primary against Price could only help us in November (not in the NC-04, which is now safely Democrat, but in statewide races), plus it would divert money from other Democrats.

My fear re: the NC-13 was always that a prominent “conservative Democrat” (by which they mean “a little less liberal than Miller or Price”) would enter the race, but no Democrat has entered so far.
