Additionally, the districts in AZ, including this one, will be changing for the next general election.

What happened with this district in the redistricting process? Easier or more difficult for a Republican?

Hard for me to tell at the moment, since I'm more in the PHX area. A 9th district is being added and there has been the expected fights and partisan voting in the commission creating the districts (the Gov even kicked the Chairwoman off the commission, but the AZ Supreme Court reinstated her). Generally, the Repub's are against it. Currently 5 Districts hold Repub and 3 Demo. The new map is supposed to go 4 solid Repub, 2 solid Demo, and 3 "competitive".

Historically, her District had an ever so slight Repub tilt - at least in terms of the holder being Repub - in an otherwise "blue" part of the State (Tucson - she herself was originally a Repub as a State Congresscritter before winning her seat as a brand new Demo in '06. Barely held on against Kelly in '10 election).

Kelly was the "Tea Party" candidate and seems very impressive. Not my District, but I hope he pulls it out this time.

Probably a bit more (D) in the new district. The more conservative NW Tucson area is no longer in the new ex-Gabby district.

The actual details for Tucson are here -
