Gingrich questions Romney's truthfulness in new TV ad (Mittens Caught Lying)
TampaBay.com ^ | JANUARY 27, 2012

Posted on 01/27/2012 11:14:23 AM PST by Red Steel

New ad from Newt Gingrich. We dont't have video yet but here is script:

Governor Huckabee: "If a man's dishonest to get a job, he'll be dishonest on the job." (Source)

Narrator: What kind of man would mislead, distort, and deceive just to win an election?

This man would be Mitt Romney. Romney said he has always voted Republican when he had the opportunity.

But in the 1992 Presidential Primary Romney had the chance to vote for George H.W. Bush or Pat Buchanan but he voted for a liberal Democrat instead. (Source)

Romney said his investments in Fannie and Freddie were in a blind trust.

But as reported in the National Journal, Romney earned tens of thousands of dollars from investments NOT in a blind trust. (Source)

Romney denied seeing a false ad his campaign used to attack Newt Gingrich.  But Romney's own campaign paid for the ad...Romney's own voice is on the ad approving the content. (Source)

If we can't trust Romney in a debate, how can we trust him in the White House?

interesting blog on Citizen Wells this morning on Romney defrauding a Falcone Company investment group of one billion dollars, not mentioned as assets in Romney’s tax return, and the money being deposited in the Caymans. According to the blog, the Bush clan are also involved. Falcone is pursuing redress and says it will be interesting if Romney thinks he can avoid prosecution as a sitting President if he wins the election. Wonder if this is true? If so, needs blasted from the rooftops.

By the time the smoke clears, not a one of the GOP candidates will have a chance to get elected dog catcher in a small town.

It’s not worth getting angry about, the blind trust is running his ad campaign.

Right, Romney said he said he voted for Tsongas because there were no republicans on the ballot. Forgot that there was a contested primary between Bush and Buchanan that year. Apparently Mitt did too. But he was an independent i.e. democrat then.

A huge exception. Obama’s butt is hanging in the wind since there is a Grand Canyon filled with mud to shovel on him. All you have to do is expose Obama in the general election and stick a fork in him when he’s toasted and roasted. The media has never exposed the un-vetted Obama.

This is the exact kind of cool, factual ad that completely exposes Romney. Notably, the “VOICE”, Newt, doesn’t have to say a word. Beautiful.

“The media has never exposed the un-vetted Obama.”

I don’t understand it, but it seems Newt is the only one with the guts to actually attack Obama on his record, as well as on his past.

My fear is that by the time the primaries are over, they’ll all be too bloody for it to matter.

All of the campaigning is ridiculous. What did we do before this crap? We want all our losing candidates down for the count. No dignity. We don’t want them going home with a pat on the back and a “thank you for trying.” We want their reputations ruined. We want them dead. We want them never to resurface. They are the most dispicable of the dispicable. ven their families should hate them. Look at what Governor Perry has suffered as a result of him believing he could serve his country. His polls are lower in Texas and he’s the punchline of all kinds of humorless jokes.
Every time I watch what is going on and hear the jeers and cheers because someone is being hit with a battle axe, I just want to puke. I think we’re all being played. I think there isn’t much a president can do...or a congress either for that matter. We just hope there is something they can do.

Newt hasn’t been bruised yet. Everyone is laying in wait. I wish he would continue to orate the positive instead of provoking what will be more negative than he can handle. Why waste time and money trying to make people hate your opponent instead of liking you?

I'm wondering if Romney had ever invested in pharmaceuticals or in anything where he would benefit by the government subsidizing health care resulting in soaring prices.

The cited source does not mention Romney. This link is better.

I hate political ads. They are always telling half the story, and then if we LIKE the half they tell, we think they are great, and if we don’t, we cite the other half the story and call them lies.

A lot of people in 2008 took Rush Limbaugh’s lead, and voted in democratic primaries for Hillary Clinton.

If one of those people runs for office in 20 years, and says “I always voted Republican when I could”, are we going to call them liars? I mean, there was no point in voting in the republican primaries, McCain was our nominee. And they couldn’t vote in BOTH primaries, so certainly it is not a lie to say that they voted republican “when they could”. Even though yes, technically, the COULD have ignored Rush, and voted in the republican primary.

The “lie” Romney told wasn’t that he “voted republican when he could”. He did — he decided to vote in the democratic primary because Bush was the incumbent and going to be our nominee, and having shown up to vote in the democratic primary, he had to vote for a democrat, and couldn’t vote for a republican.

The “lie” was that he says he did so to pick the “worst democrat”. In fact, he probably picked the democrat he most thought would be a good president, if they actually won. And he voted for a home-town guy. He didn’t vote for Clinton.

As to the “blind trust” issue, it is true that a mutual fund isn’t blind, and that a person could look at a mutual fund, see what they invested in, and then, what? Take actions to help out industries that are invested in? Well OK, EXCEPT that Romney wasn’t in office. There was nothing he could do for which that would be influence.

So the argument that he would know what he owned in the mutual fund is pointless. The argument suggest that he CHOSE to invest in Freddie and Fannie, and that clearly is false, because just as he had no say in how his blind trust was invested, he also had no say in how the mutual fund manager decided to invest.

And it’s also a rediculous argument for us to be having. Aren’t there real issues, like our country is going bankrupt? Am I supposed to care instead that you can hardly find a big-cap mutual fund that didn’t invest in Freddie and Fannie at that time? Am I supposed to think that by putting money into a mutual fund, Romney was actively supporting Freddie and Fannie?

Of course, I’m still trying to figure out why it is a bad thing for a private citizen, be it Gingrich OR Romney, to make money by investing in a company that has a good return on investment, when that company couldn’t be influenced by the investment. We know that Freddie and Fannie were “part of the problem”, because of government and their ties, but investing in them didn’t empower them. If we are going to disqualify everybody who ever made money from a mutual fund that ever bought a company we no longer like, we won’t have any candidates left.

There are a million things to attack Romney for. Why do we keep attacking him for things like getting investment income, as if that is a bad thing that we’d like to stop?
