Strangers help woman chase down robbery suspect: 'I was tired of being a victim'

Linette Kossow had just boarded the 36/Broadway bus in the Loop and was rifling through her bag for coupons when a man behind her reached over her shoulder, snatched her wallet and bolted out the rear door.

“I was screaming as loud as I could, ‘Hey, stop him!’”

Kossow was soon joined by a security guard and together they chased the man.

“I grabbed him and said, ‘God wants you to give me back my wallet. Please give me back my wallet, I need it.’”

But he slipped away and the chase continued -- soon joined by a homeless man. The suspect ducked into the lobby of a building, and Kossow said she got close enough to bear-hug him and again plead for her wallet.

But the suspect ran off again, but he didn't very far.

Kossow said she hugged the strangers who helped her and gave them the cash in her wallet, which also contained a $500 check from her mother.

Kossow, who recently had her home burglarized and her e-mail hacked, said she would do it all over again. “I was tired of being a victim,” she said. “I was just frustrated. I just snapped. I was so determined.”

The suspect, Jenar Sanders, 18, was charged with felony theft and violation of a condition of bail from a previous arrest, according to police. His attorney said Sanders is a senior at South Shore High School.

One police official called Kossow lucky. "She grabbed him. She was lucky this guy wasn’t a violent guy. They had him in an alley without an exit. He’s a fairly substantial man.”

Sanders is 6-foot-3 and weighs 270 pounds, according to police. The woman is 5-foot-8 and a little more than half his weight, police said.

"He’s a fairly substantial man."

That's physically substantial, not intellectually substantial.

Kossow also added that she would soon be changing her voter registration from ‘DemoVictiSlave’, to ‘RepubliMinuteWoman.

“The criminal damage to property charge was lodged after Sanders’ landlord called the police on him for allegedly kicking in doors and destroying other property at the apartment building where he lives with his mother”-—No father to be found, since he left long ago and the mother probably has no clue who he is.

Does not God say, help yourself.....

One or maybe three 40 call rounds helps the robber....

She got lucky, normally she would have been dead meat.

Continue to kill the bad guys robbing, we have less to deal with.

Were it Dallas perhaps she or one of the passersby would have just shot the bugger and saved the taxpayers some money.

My wife is a special ed teacher. She had an eight year old in her class a few years ago that was 5’11” and 215 and 8 years old. He was dumber than granite but he kept order in the classroom.

The story is in the Chicago Tribune, not the Telegraph (UK).

“The criminal damage to property charge was lodged after Sanders’ landlord called the police on him for allegedly kicking in doors and destroying other property at the apartment building where he lives with his mother, according to court records.”

So, another wonderful result of a single-parent family, the model for child-raising which is so heavily subsidized by the government.

It seems to be a rule of nature that when there no father is around, the little boys grow up to be uncontrollable monsters. At least, statistics points to that conclusion (although there always are exceptions). For some inexplicable reason, the single mother is an object of uncritical sympathy, and is showered with food stamps and popularized in the media. This is no way to have a healthy society.

“dumber than granite”

While the 8 y/o may not have a high degree of inate intelligence, I feel that your remark is uncalled for.

Sorry I didn’t use whatever the politically correct term might be. The kid was dumber than granite. Still is. He is 13 years older now and in jail at the moment for, essentially, being dumber than schist.
The dictionary of Politically Correct Writing changes too often and I don’t keep up with it.
