After Daily Caller blogger Matt Lewis eviscerated a harsh Reuters story on Florida senator Marco Rubio, the wire service was forced to make five corrections.
Now Reuters is attempting damage control and conceding the story is regrettable:
One senior staffer at Reuters described the episode to me as a "fiasco," another as a "disgrace."
It was so bad, in fact, that the editors and writer involved have been asked not to talk about it. (I reached out to editors David Lindsey and Eric Walsh, but have not heard back.)
The article, by David Adams, had intended to detail why Rubio was an unlikely pick for Vice President: "Rubio may not be as coveted as Gingrich or Romney would have it appear as they press for votes in Florida, where more than 450,000 Hispanics identify themselves as Republicans," Reuters David Adams wrote. "Despite his reputation as a watchdog over federal spending, Rubio, 40, has had significant financial problems that could keep him from passing any vetting process as a potential vice presidential choice, Republican and Democratic strategists say."
But after pressure from the Rubio staff, Reuters was forced to issue corrections that quickly became a larger talking point than the article itself.
Reuters = Propaganda
Hah! And in a flash Reuters has handed the Florida vote back to Newt. (I hope).
Reuters accomplished their objective. The seed, however untrue, has been planted.
The headline is misleading.
Reuters did not acknowledge the article was a “fiasco” and a “disgrace”. That comes from an unnamed source.
There’s an indication they admitted to it being ‘regrettable’ but I cannot find any statement from them to that effect.
“And in a flash Reuters has handed the Florida vote back to Newt. (I hope).”
I am beginning to think that even more than half of the voting electorate are too stupid to make the connection.(sigh)
Yeah...the other “story” planted by the WaPo is that Rubio’s parents aren’t “real” refugees from Castro because they came after Castro was in power, went back, and came again.
Interesting, isn’t it...that the libs are all over the timing in this case, but we can’t know ANYTHING about Obama’s time in Indonesia, his adoptive father, his college life...apparently The One lived in a foreign students dorm as an undergrad...checking into any of that would be...
...”racist”.
That’s it? That’s the entire article and they said nothing about what Rubio’s “alleged” financial problems are.
I hope you’re right, but I am apparently missing something here. “How” will this hand the Florida vote back to Newt? I’m a Newt supporter and I’m interested.

Well, I guess I’m stupid too because I’m not making the connection as to “how” this hands the FL vote back to Newt. I hope it does, but, I’m missing something here.
Must have been a bad day at the ministry of truth. They need to do some unspeak doublegoodquick.
That is okay. The seed is planted that Reuters said it. DEEElicious irony.
Rubio is the Cubans' man. You don't bash him and expect the Cubans to take it well. But if you're going to bash him, you at least need to be accurate. Now you've pissed off the Cubans. It's the same principle as when ABC decided to air Gingrich's disgruntled ex-wife. The news that Rubio was badmouthed by Reuters will get MUCH more play among Cuban Floridians than the original Reuters story ever did.
I know all of that, but, the ad is not tied to RINO-Rom, so why would the FL Cubans use this ad as an excuse to vote for Newt? I dunno..... I hope you’re right, but I’m still missing something. Thanks anyhow.
But how does that help Newt? Rubio himself has badmouthed Newt and defended Romney in the last few days.
Another thing: I don’t see how this would make the Cuban vote flock to Newt after Marco Rubio rebuked Newt for running an ad saying Mittens was “anti-immigrant”. After Rubio raised hell about it, Newt withdrew the ad. So, I’m thinking the Cuban community will follow Rubio’s “perceived” sentiments and go with the Mormon Marxist rather than Newt.
Rubio could be the Kingmaker. All he would have to do would be come out and endorse someone before Tuesday and that person will win FL and probably the nomination.
I’m with you.
Not so much a birther - but when moved to Columbia - and they roomed him with the Muslim Foreign nationals ....
That - to me - that is the kicker.
In 1980 timeframe - most anybody would have put “Indonesian” if they could - on their application to Ivy - just to get in.
In 1981 - why would they room the Black American kid with Foreign National Muslims? And - the real problem - if they did, he would have been the one kid they did that too. Now - in later years - the one kid roomed with foreigners - has questions about his citizenship, that are NOT easily cleared up.
Low % x Low % = Low Low Low % probability.
I thought attacking Rubio was good for Newt — his supporters have been trashing him pretty good here the past week.
