Secrets of the billionaire backing Gingrich's shot at the White House
The Guardian ^ | Saturday 28 January 2012 | Paul Harris

Abraham Foxman, the amiably chatty director of the Jewish civil rights group, the Anti-Defamation League, has a story to tell about his friend, the 78-year-old multi-billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson.

Adelson, who is America's eighth richest man and has given millions of dollars in support of Newt Gingrich's presidential bid, was having dinner with Foxman in Las Vegas several years ago. Foxman let slip that he was having to miss an invitation to the White House from the then president, George W. Bush. Foxman explained it was impossible to get a commercial flight. Adelson replied: "If the president of the United States asks you to go, you go." Then he gave Foxman the use of his private plane.

Foxman asked Adelson if any condition was attached to the spontaneous act of generosity. "The condition is that you tell President Bush that is how you got there," said Adelson. Foxman made it in time to meet the president.

It is a classic vignette to describe the power and style of Adelson, a man who has given scores of millions of dollars to Republican and Jewish causes over the years but who only now – by backing Gingrich – is becoming known to the wider public. It shows the reach of great wealth and how it mixes with the most powerful people on earth. It also shows Adelson's willingness to use that wealth for causes and people he believes in.

Gingrich, the latest beneficiary of Adelson's goodwill, suddenly has an outside chance of becoming president. The veteran firebrand upset the entire Republican race by coming from behind to record a stunning victory in South Carolina. The win rocked the campaign of the frontrunner, the former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, and pitched the two candidates into a showdown

It’s about time some conservative billionaire put his money in to stop the Soros agenda.

The Guardian UK is probably the most anti-American newspaper in the Isles. What the article is doing is Alinsky-like: identify enemy (Adelson), isolate, destroy.

Notice the MSM never mentions all the billionaires funding the left/Obama.

That’s true. How could I forget about the Koch brothers, they’ve been the object of liberals scorn for year!

As I thought, one of the things that ties him to Newt is support of Israel and opposition to the Palestinian Intifada.

The Guardian pretends that this is a dangerous precedent—a BILLIONAIRE donating to a politician. What it fails to mention is that all the other billionaires in sight are leftists, who give large donations to the Democrats, and always have. Because the Democrats are much better at repaying favors and bribes with corrupt distribution of tax money.

Good to know about this. Newt can certainly use the money, since his opponents—Obama and Mitt—are both pretty cash-rich from selling favors to capitalists and insider political operatives.

Who gives a @# what the Guardian thinks. At least he is getting some much needed large cash support. If he pulls off Florida, SarahPac, TeaParty and others should go full throttle and kick in 100% to keep the train rolling for Newt. Even before the Tuesday election would be okay as well.

“Critics have said Adelson’s backing of Gingrich ushers in a dangerous new world where America’s wealthiest people might feel able to single-handedly sponsor a major candidate’s bid for the White House.”

My goodness, what a load! Sheldon’s O.K. in my book. This way, at least, Willard is no longer the “presumptive” nominee!

According to Michael Savage, the reason Adelson is supporting Gingrich is that he is afraid of the effect a Mormon in the White House might have on his gaming business.

Savage spends a good deal of time in Crazy Town.

It is Adelson's love of Israel that is prompting his support for Newt.

Obama has his billion just sitting in his war chest.

Campaign manager, Jim Messina, is saying throwing that number around is first of all not accurate and second, hampering fund raising for the president.

The more voters think he has received BIG donations from The Rich, billionaires, celebrities, Wall Street etc; then the less likely struggling Americans are to give. ;)

WINNAAAHHHH!!

The Left has been all over Zionist Jews for quite a while .... Izzies all calendared, among the Left, for the crematoria again.

Leftist bilge-pumps like the Guardian whisper "Joooozzz!!" under their breath quite frequently these days. I'm wondering if they're gradually working themselves up to a full Westbrook Pegler diatribalism one day.

What is it with the Left, that they get their knickers in a twist over Israeli Jews instead of the Main Enemy -- us here in the States? But they do. Wonder why?

I hope he has a “secret plan” for pulling this thing out this weekend. In SC, Newt was down 18 points and won by 12. That is a 30 point turn-around. It can happen again. This thing is not over.

At least Adelman has ‘business experience’ which Romney claims to have, but does NOT have.

I don’t think Adelman would hire Romney to run any part of his casino empire. Not even the housekeeping part.

It's never been a secret that Sheldon Adelson and his wife are very rich, they're on the Forbes list every year, that he's Jewish, or that he's a Repbulican. I'm not sure what the secret the Brits have discovered might be.
