McCain Sees Anti-Mormonism in Romney's S.C. Loss (Try anti-socialism, Juan!)

THE VILLAGES, Fla. -- John McCain has become Mitt Romney's biggest advocate in this critical early primary state, one that made his own GOP presidential nomination inevitable four years ago.

In an interview with RealClearPolitics after a town-hall meeting with about 100 seniors here, McCain often referred to Romney and his campaign as “we.” At the end of the interview, he asked intensely, “What’s [the RCP polling average] saying about us overnight after the debate?”

A reflection of this sense of ownership was evident in his take on last Saturday’s South Carolina primary, which Gingrich won.

“We haven’t had time to do a real analysis of the Romney race in South Carolina, but once we break that down, there was some element of anti-Mormonism in that vote,” McCain asserted. “I’m not saying all of it, but there were elements there. There was nothing that Mitt Romney could have done.”

Could that bias, if it exists, extend beyond the Palmetto State to others in the South if the primary drags on? “I’m not sure [but] I don’t think so,” McCain said, pointing to Georgia as one place he doesn’t believe would hold Romney’s religion against him.

Yeah, and Benedict Arnold was a war hero too, before he betrayed the cause.

I am not from SC; but I would be insulted by that remark. A jab at the Bible Belt, as a whole. Can't cry the race card so might as well take the religious prejudice card.

Did not work on Kennedy.

McCain will hurt his own choice of candidate, more than help.

Reporters just stalk these politicians down as they know they will get a controversial story. McCain should keep to solving the issues we face..

I am tired of this race already, so just have fun with it. Santorum needs now to rescue a kitten sitting on the ledge of a burning building, wrap it in his sweater vest, and carry it to safety to the arms of a little old "pensioner"..that is what it will take to be noticed. But then the guy who sets the fire will probably get the press..

I held my nose and voted for this egotistical asshole in 2008 because I thought it was the right thing to do; that was a mistake, as he should have had his pasty pale butt kicked twice as hard. Mitt Romney will be lacking at least one equivalent McCain vote in 2012: mine. Neither one of these arrogant jerks was, is or ever will be worth supporting regardless of their personal religious beliefs.

I don’t know why this would surprise anyone on FR, the anti-Mormon threads and comments are rampant, and often quite vile.

Damn straight, Juan! Some of us are smart enough to realize that a person who believes he will be a god someday, equal to the God of the Bible, with his very own planet of people who will worship him, is a delusional narcissistic psychotic who should not be allowed anywhere near the Oval Office.

Spoken like a true liberal pimp, John.
